Sentry lasers increase the defence value of the ship by 25%.
Marines will simply add their fight value to defence value.
Do you miss dangerous pirates?
Try leading the target a little more...

it's not like there is a set formula like if X>Y, you will succeed. There is some randomness involved. Typically I try not to board ships with sentry lasers and marines on board, but losses are inevitable so I usually train marines by the dozens.

If this is TC, casualties get calculated on a per deck basis.... I think. AP is a calculated when marines begin boarding. You can probably get away with no casualties if if there are low fight rank marines, but only a small handful. Sentry lasers are said to = one 5 star marine and in my experience, usually cause a few casualties even when you get 20 marines on board, which usually doesn't happen if you use the launch all marines command in TC. Maybe fixed in AP?
