those hammerhead are nasty...

Post by p00fer » Thu, 15. Mar 12, 04:57

So i was doing my regular check up on CAG's in the property menu when saw an abnormal ammount of idle ships...since i setup in OL (didnt know the big risk that posed at the time) i checked scale plate and black sun...no xenon...checked treasure..no xenon...[drop of sweat generated here] so i checked OL an d bam! a J coupled with some 5-8 Ls plus a ton of Ms & N's'...didnt waste time, saved and went after them...

remembered i had a hammerhead on board, was short of typhoons (had just taken out a Q) but had plenty of silkworms and a tornado to distract point defense.

so i approached, ejected 10 fighter drones just in case and proceded to smash the l button with intended payload....the silkworms, tornados and minimal typhoon did their job scratching the paint off the J, but when the hammer hit, all shields down, sent another barrage of silkworms and headed for collision course....that invasion did not stand a chance, most of the escort was wiped out by the hammerhead, the rest i picked up with IoD + silkworms

TL;DR: my hydra is still awesome!

Hammerheads are great fun if you can get them past the point defence, I agree. Something about 1.2 GJ of shielding being gone in a flash is just brilliant.

I stockpile them to hurl into the blindspots of Qs. Much more fun than dodging PPC and waiting for my HEPT to whittle down the shields to the point I can ram without hull damage.

Do Hammerheads still do AoE damage? Pirates packing Hammerheads (aka Unknown Missiles for most of TC, until you unlock their name via a plot mission) were the bane of fighters in TC. Because of their massive blast radius (I seem to remember it being around 5km?), and the fact that it was Pirate fighters firing them, there was a very good chance you'd die whenever one was fired, regardless of turret settings or MDM, unless you knew it was coming and could outrun it.

Firestorms. And you can build them.

Hammerheads have 1.25 GJ yield, Firestorms only have 1 GJ. Still, that's one heck of a bang and as Kapakio said you can build them.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am :D

And the blast radius is 1,2 km for the hammerhead and 1 km for firestorm, iirc.

The Hammerhead is also faster than the Firestorm.
