Is this game best played with a joystick or keyboard and mouse?
I can use any really, but someone told me a joystick is not that good for X3TC. What are your opinions?

I use the mouse to start the game. Then only stick and keyboard.
Maverick: Requesting permission for flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full.
Goose: No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.
Maverick: Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz a Split.
Split: Split now give you .... Aaaarrriiiigh.

From left to right, my setup is:
Keyboard
Joystick
Mouse
I use joystick for all maneuvering that is not autopilot.
I have my mouse handy for command menus and selecting stuff.
I personally feel that a joystick is a definite must for me, to the point that I would refuse to play without one. But, to each his own.

I use a keyboard and mouse for X3TC and have no issues at all maneuvering my craft. Likewise, there are plenty out there who have no issues using a joystick or HOTAS with X3TC.sogeking90 wrote:I can use any really, but someone told me a joystick is not that good for X3TC. What are your opinions?
It's really up to you and what you like best. Though, I will say that you'll likely need to make extensive use of the mouse/keyboard when managing your player's assets/fleets/complexes/etc..

Flying capships with mouse is managgeable but the joystick gives you the full pleasure. OFC it has to be 3 axis one + throtle control.
I have found a bit nonsense to ask this because the optimum is to use em all.
You can't steer the ship if any menu/map ect is open with the mouse. I can imagine to slide your ship with the mouse with a 2 axis indicator which tells you the actual ammount of sliding and steer + roll the ship with the joystick.

X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!

I agree with the comment already made - why one choice or the other? I use all three! The loss of a joystick would, in my opinion, significantly reduce the enjoyment of the game!
