Did I just get super lucky with an early capture?

Post by nubcakes_mcgee » Sun, 8. Apr 12, 22:16

:o

So, I've been reading tips about a good solo fighter that'd serve me well for a long time, and had my eyes set on one day flying a Nova Raider. Of course, being poor and in nothing but a Sabre, I've been working my butt off scrounging for cash to at least afford a hauler and some software so I can get some easy cash.

During a mission I couldn't resist, for 500k creds, even though it was classified as Very Hard, in my crappy two-laser M4 (I think) I ended up fighting a group of two novas and assorted Harriers attacking the haulers I was escorting. I drew off the harriers, picked off a nova by circle strafing it at like 15 meters, and as I was struggling on the last one, he ended up ejecting as I got halfway through his hull and my eyes bugged out. I then quickly abandoned the mission and let the haulers die while I scurried my newly captured Pirate Nova to safety. :D

Did I just get super duper lucky, or are pirate novas just duds and nothing compared to the real Argon thing? I realize I don't have guns, but I'm about to say screw the hauler for now and suit up in my shiny new Nova.

They are slower and this makes them far less appealing. But you can always sell it, add a bit of own cash and get a real deal...
Where is it?

The Pirate Nova Raider was great in Reunion, but got heavily nerfed as of TC. Any capture early on is lucky simply because you start at the lowest fight rank. However, a cap is a cap, and an M3 is an M3. Fix it up with your repair laser and send it somewhere safe. You're in a Sabre so you don't have the guns for it yet, but once you do, switch into it (unless you cap something better).

I'm with delray. Repair it with your suit laser and sell it. Then you've got
some start up cash for your trader.

A half decent used M3 in good condition is good money in the early game

Well, at the behest of posters in this thread, I went ahead and sold it and a few other captured M4s/M5s, as well as my Sabre(not counting software upgrades), and had JUST enough to buy a legit Nova Raider L equipped with four plasma throwers and 3 25MJ shields, and I could afford to fully tune it and and buy some extra mass drivers for it as well. Am I ready to kick some ass now?

MDs are horrid in AP due to boosted hull values. Get some PBG and EBC for that Nova, and some Wasps.
Where is it?

In that case, MDs are fine. Note, however, that if you're only using MDs, you won't get any bails. The reason for this is that ships will never bail if they still have shields, and MDs don't touch shields.

Well I was reading up on that. Most of my money comes from bailouts lately, so I'm using a mix of HEPTs and MDs, half and half, with an IRE in the back for missile defence. If I could only figure out how to configure the rear turret for that... :?

That is a good start. I hope you can fly it well enough. Some of the better pilots can take am M7 down with an M3. I'm personally flying a Nova Raider with MD and 30 crates of ammo. It is amazing how fast you can win a furball with MDs.
I'd like to shoot you in the butt with a EBC gun, hide in the asteroids and laugh at what I done, put a blood blister upon each bun, I'd like to shoot you in the butt with a EBC gun.
Some people are like slinkies, not worth a whole lot, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

You can set your ships' turrets' commands from your ship's command console. In your case, Shift+C then look for where it says "Turret Control"

They nerf it, the nonpirate ship variants got boosted.

Nice, thank you!

Well, it's not an M7, but just five minutes ago on the way to pick up some ammo I had a fight with a Xenon P and two LX's. It was a little hairy until I managed to take care of the LX's and get under the P's guns. Managed to take it out and finally get the Combat Pro achievement! :D

i rarely ever sell capped ships (unless they are Terran) i save them to latter make a scrapship armada(tm) i put them in any available docking slots on any ship that can dock them until i get my 1st M1.... it just seems like something someone of my playstyle would do :pirat:

So...

Do you ever get fined for littering in the sectors that you launch your Scrapship Armada ™? :D

This is one of my fortes...

The best way to get a ship to bail? Ambush them out of nowhere...

I have struck several ships with a few shots from SSC's, and not too rarely almost IMMEDIATELY the pilot bails..

I even got an LX to bail using them... :D

I also bailed an LX with a mix of CIG's and IPG's...

And want to get some SERIOUS money? Make blastclaws and Blastclaw Prototypes bail...

Regulars are 2.4 M a piece, Prototypes are 4 M a piece...

Plus if you're in an M7 (I was in a cerberus) They are relatively easy to bail if you play your cards right...

Also I recently made a Kha'ak fighter Bail from SSC's, before one of the remaining shots blew it.... (I fired two bursts, the first made it bail and the second destroyed it.)

EDIT: If you force a Yaki Tenjin to bail, DONT YOU DARE SELL IT! Keep it for yourself... that thing is the lamborghini of commonwealth M3s in TC.
Happy accidents are just another form of discovery, except they are way more fun.

I can confirm that it's possible in vanilla TC. FAA and SSC are great for the job.

Fighters did bail, you couldn't cap capitals though.
Where is it?
