Captured Scimitar keeps getting destroyed

This is really irritating!

I’m playing the “Argon” game in AP and managed to capture a Terran Scimitar (yes, really!). I’ve tweaked it up, added shields, cargo space, engine tuning etc etc and am in the process of picking up EMP weapons (2 so far).

Then, it mysteriously got destroyed. I thought I’d made some sort of mistake and re-loaded an old saved game and carried on.

Some hours later and, again, it’s been destroyed. This time I know I’ve not made any mistakes. It is safely in the hangar of my Panther. The log, on both occasions, just says “Your ship Scimitar was destroyed in xxx sector”. Normally, of course, it would say destroyed by something. But of course, given it is safe in its hangar, nothing could have destroyed it.

What’s going on?

In short, some ships captured in War Sectors (it may vary between leaders and escorts) are liable to be removed by the script/MD at the end of the scenario even if they change hands. There have been a few threads on this such as here.

Moving to Universe forum for greater exposure to Players.

Ah!! I did wonder if something like this was going on. Reading the posts in the link, I think it is possible that the Scimitar was destroyed when I left the Panther in one sector and flew into the next in my Kestrel.

I also wondered if, flying the Scimitar somehow “reset” it so it hung around for a while. That’s what I’m doing now…I backtracked to an earlier save (losing other captured ships meanwhile :cry: ) then flew the Scimitar and it is still with me as I’m carrying on with the game. I think I’ll try going OOS keeping an eye on it and see if it disappears. Very annoying if it does as I liked the idea of capturing something of this difficulty.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

i had something like this happen to a Mercury Trader i just bought in AP i just got it upgraded the Cargo, speed and turning and was sending it to Home of Light to get the trade software 3 and it vanish just after it left the shipyard i watched it it just left the station and just vanished Mind you i was one of the only ships within 15k ish of it and it was away from the station by at least 4.5k, so i wasted more money and did the same thing and this new one made it to Home of light, can anyone tell me what happened or no :?

Yeah, it's annoying. I picked up a couple of bailed ships from the fight east of Family Zyarth in TC, and found them destroyed by the script cleaning up after itself. Very annoying.

Sorry for the delay in posting this update.

I can 100% confirm that the captured Scimitar gets destroyed, in the safety of my Panther, within seconds of me leaving the sector (in which the Panther/Scimitar are located) in another ship. Whether or not I’ve just been flying it is irrelevant.

Other mystery disappearances I have come across in earlier versions of the game (perhaps cured now?) were due to the ship crashing into space stations.

I look in the message log and that will tell you “proper” reasons for losing a ship (“Your xyz was destroyed by Xenon Q” etc.). The mystery ones seem to just say “Your ship was destroyed”.

Another destruction I had wasn’t a mystery. I had captured a pirate something (can’t remember) and was in my spacesuit using the repair laser. After a fair amount of time it suddenly blew up in my face. It was a local military ship which was NOT an enemy, and it was not a stray shot from the earlier fighting because of the long time delay. It must be that the local ship was still registering it as a pirate, rather than mine.

I did think about blowing the local ship out of the sky, but then I suppose I would lose race rep!

The only way to to do sth about it is to stay in the same sector and sell them. When they have to jump to the next shipyard jump immediately afterwards.

Without repair mods this is rather pointless of course.

Yes indeed. I should have added that, as I was getting fed up of going back to previous saves, once the destruction was proven (and not me being silly), I stayed with the ship until I sold it at a shipyard.

Unless someone comes up with a fix, I think this is the only sensible thing to do.

thats fairly common... in the fight there probably where some missile spitters like m8 or m7m. their missiles take a while wandering across the sector. when you where repairing your price those missiles finally hit...
