Try Getsu Fune, often P's are flying through with a few L as escorts. No need for marines or anything else, just 'luck' that the pilot bails, erm, the CPU gets overheated.

I've heard it all before ... you're saying nothing new ... I thought I saw a rainbow ... but I guess it wasn't true ... you cannot make me listen ... I cannot make you hear ... you find your way to heaven ... I'll meet you when you're there ...
May as well post here instead of a new thread.
I am also up to this point in the plot.
I have never ever capped anything in my whole x2 - x3ap career. I've always earned my ships. Apart from any bailouts that occur randomly, i've never set out to cap ships. Can anyone give me the basics and some tips? Money is not much of an issue right now, i just have no clue what ships/weapons to use.

Doing a mix of tips from different posts i think the idea is something like this to get the best chance for a bail:
- banish the entire shield and touch the hull as fast as possible
- the shorter the time to burn the shield the higher the chance for a bail once touching the hull, so some ppl just burn the entire shield and like 30% of the hull, if the pilot dont bail they reload to before the fight
- there appear to be a 6 seconds check after that point, meaning that you can shot a single fire every 6 seconds and keep trying, tho the chance is lower
- apparently on desperation the pilot can bail also if left without weapons and shields, for this method burn the ship with Ion Disruptors (and there was another weapon i think)
Pls some guru correct me if im wrong, and the suggested method in general is to just use the first method, maybe to a more extreme point, just burn the ship as fast as possible to the lowest hull you can control without destroying it, if he dont bail after reaching 10% hull just reload...(wait a few seconds to be sure tho)

I'd look at this - http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=270108Vortexz wrote:May as well post here instead of a new thread.

I would give advice myself, but I no longer play in vanilla, and haven't for a while so my info may not be correct.
On the main topic, I'd use mass drivers, as you don't have to kill the shield to get a bail.
EDIT: Disregard the last bit, I'm wrong.

i did this in the m3 it starts you off with... fully loaded with PRGs i find an L drop its shields and then hull to around 80% then fly off and after its shields are back to around 80% i repeated process just taking about 20% hull each pass....
i think i got a bail after the 3rd or fourth L i found.... would've been the 2nd but a missile blew it up after it bailed....
i split my kills between grand exchange wandering ships and black hole sun invasion missions (got it in BHS since the one in grand exchange was destroyed)

The mechanics of bailing in X3 has been discussed in length here:
Capping Mechanics
Reverse-engineered bailing algorithm
English translation/recap of the original Russian comments
[EDIT] This was rev-engineered in X3R, I believe, some of the codes may no longer be valid, but the main mechanics are still the same, IMHO of course.
To recap:
- Bailing occurs when hull hits 87% and shield at 0
- THere is a backoff timing, where the more you hit, the lesser the chance, so let off the frequency of the hit, and let the shield recharge somewhat
- The faster the shield drop the better the chance
- THere is a field in each ship called the "morale". The higher the morale, the harder the pilot would bail.
Good luck!

Seriously? But I've used a mass driver to make a ship bail many times before. Although, that may be because I use the npc bailing addon.VincentTH wrote:The mechanics of bailing in X3 has been discussed in length here:

The reverse-engineering thread is very informative. I would think that for a new player who is just trying to make his first L bail the secret of success will be in numbers. Just kill enough of them with FLAK guns of your Gryphon and eventually one of them will bail. M7M with flail missiles works even better - I have probably about 40 Ls scattered around xenon sectors because of it.VincentTH wrote:The mechanics of bailing in X3 has been discussed in length here:
Although doing patrol missions in sectors bordering Xenon space could be a good source of Ls, I had some really bad experience with RRF ships stealing my bailed ships by some stray missiles still in the air. System Override Software and Signature Scrambler are highly recommended here. I think I was only able to claim 3-rd or 4-th bailed L during the plot.

Yeah, I'll edit that out, as it seems I was wrong, and it must have been the scripts I've installed causing this. (I still think it makes sense)jkjklkl wrote:Actually, you do. Pilots will never bail if they still have shieldsInFlamesForEver wrote:

Well, I thought it was vanilla behaviour...kurush wrote:And I use the cheat script to summon necessary fighters How useful is that for the OP?InFlamesForEver wrote: Seriously?
