Love this game, but STUCK on the last Kha'ak Final Fury mission

Post by Cursim » Thu, 26. Apr 12, 19:33

Greetings all,

I've been working on this mission for months. In the process I've completely revamped my trading fleet and built out two complexes (learning the complex building process). I've got two M2's. First is a Terran Osaka with mostly EMPCs, 25% shockwave cannons, 25% PSPs, and maybe 2-3 anti-matter/matter launchers thrown in. I also have a Boreas, 50/50 PPC/CIG.

I have a fight rank of Specialist. I don't remember what my rank was when I started the mission, probably VERY high, but it was awhile back and it's since dropped from seta-trading incidents with pirates and xenon.

My question is, what do I do? The ships pretty much get completely destroyed when I jump in. Sometimes I can survive the first encounter with the ships intact. At this point however, the ships are like children to me. I want them to live QQ.

Any tips from any seasoned vets?

Much appreciated and Hello!

I did this in DiD to boot, and here is what I did:

1. Load a TS with a lot of shield and at least 30 Lasertowers, and an Adv sat.
2. Jump the TS in, and IMMEDIATELY eject the LTs and then the Adv sat.
3. Jump your personal ship in, preferrably an M7M, and then fly towards the friendly ships. Missile Barrage the Khaaks that spawn near your ship.

The LTs will provide coverage for your ship until you have jumped the M2 in.

Good luck!!!!

Here is another similar thread which you might find helpful.

Are you running vanilla or modded? If modded, are you running any scripts or mods that modify weapons or enemy AI, make them more powerful? Are you running any mods that change the balance of power and the numerical balance in battle?

Because if it's none of that and you're running vanilla it can only be a bug.

NOBODY is incompetent enough to consistently fail one and the same mission for months on end, even with such powerful ships, without there being some outside problem.

I too did this mission with an Osaka (the other time I did it with a Titan, otherwise I don't bother with plots), ALONE - didn't have any other ship with me, and I completed the mission on first try with shields to spare.

I have two fully loaded M2s, set the turrets to Attack enemies and go to town. If this qualifies as being "the most incompetent person ever" then I guess I win that title. Thats why I'm posting, to try and learn what I'm doing wrong.

The months of play time include long long stretches of time where I play other games and not X3, or I let it run hands off for trading, or work or sleep.

Under "Attack Enemies", your PPCs will be gunning for M5s and EMPCs will go for the M2s.

You still haven't answered the most important question: are playing a vanilla or a modified game?

first of all, you need to work on your loadouts. EMPC do not belong on a M2. same goes for mixing guns on the same turrets.

with the khaak, you need alot flyswatters on your ship. if you want to go in your osaka (good call, lots of shields) you need to put on all starburst shockwaves apart from the front. there you want PSP. set your turret commands to missile defense and the front to attack your target (where you go after the guardians).

if you encounter alot of korvettes, you might want to switch the sides to PSP too and set its turret commands to attack big ships.

same goes for the boreas... with CIGs you wont hit a single khaak fighter... go for flaks. PPC perform better as damage dealer because its a more constant stream of damage. if you miss a single round, its not a big deal. if you miss with a PSP it takes a while until you can shoot again.
trouble with boarding? try this!

The game has a modified tag, but to my knowledge I have no mods installed. I even uninstalled, deleted the game directory, and reinstalled to be sure. It still says "***modified***" in the pilot screen, but I don't know of any mods I installed other than some cockpit mod that I disabled. So I would assume vanilla mechanics / stats.

THAT SAID, I just beat the mission. The thread linked earlier in this thread explained that I needed to have the Osaka jump in first and then the Boreas, then concentrate on any M2s/Carriers before the stations, in order of proximity. Doing that was very effective.

I also loaded the ships up with Drone MKIIs (I have a factory complex built out, they protect my traders). Lastly, I made two separate trips out, jumping out before my ships could be destroyed and returning with a full drone complement. I wasn't doing any of these things before reading the posts in the aforementioned thread, so I would definitely thank "jkjklkl" for that.

All I was doing before was jumping the M2's in with turrents set on "Attack enemies" and expecting them to just own the sector. Learned a good deal from this encounter.

You are right about the sheilds. At one point it got down to 1% but managed to finish the wave and recharge.

You got NO FLAK on your Boreas? This is, sorry, suicidal stupidity. Same goes for the Osaka. More Shockwave in the turrets.

And, as already stated: only one type of gun in each turret. Never mix!

I did Final Fury twice without a single personal Kha'ak kill in my statistics. All I needed was a Boreas, a Panther, 2 Cobra and my Chokaro as personal ship. -> Jump in with the Chokaro and immediately get out of trouble with the turbobooster, jump in the Boreas packed with FLAK, jump in the Panther packed with FLAK, get in the Cobras and remote-spam Flails. When everything is somewhat calmed down switch to Hammer Missiles and finish off the sector.

All done. Wasn't that hard tbh.
... what is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? ... what is a thought, compared to the mind? ... our unity is full of wonder which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive ... I've heard it all before ... you're saying nothing new ... I thought I saw a rainbow ... but I guess it wasn't true ... you cannot make me listen ... I cannot make you hear ... you find your way to heaven ... I'll meet you when you're there ...

I'm still learning the game, all this info is more or less new to me. I'm still learning cap ship combat and all the various weapons.

Wow, some of you really went about this puny mission in a grand style!

OP, good to hear you've finally completed it! As for modified: do you have Cycrow's Plugin Manager installed? If yes, it's possible you at one time before this playthrough set in SETTINGS -> MODE to "modified" and then forgot to set it back to "vanilla".

Or maybe you at one time had a script installed that had it's own "!init.set.modified.pck" file in the pack and remained after you deleted the script. Search your X folder for this file.

Cause I can't think of any other reason why it would say modified.

Yep, everyone has to learn at some point, even the fools that called you stupid and incompetent in this thread.

I'm glad to hear you got it done, and at least now you know what you need to do for bigships when you do your own operations later in the game.

Luckily it doesn't particularly matter if you're modified or not if you aren't uploading stats or whatever. So don't worry about it.
