[X3AP] Huge rep drop because of boarding a single Hyperion
Just got from <Friend of Emperor> rank to <Tainted Wanderer> with the Paranid (i think total gap is 10 whole ranks) because I tried and successfully managed to board my first Hyperion Vanguard in their border sectors. When i reloaded and just shot down the ship, i got "just" a -2 or -3 rank penaly (can't exactly remember how many ranks - but certainly not -10 !)
So, this is really frustrating. It might not be much, but I chased the Hyperion around border sectors around Cardinal's Domain (Sacred Relic, Friar's Retreat, Spring of Belief) while it was patrolling by itself, waiting for the opportune moment to board - and now this is happening.
The ship is simply named "Paranid Military Hyperion Vanguard" and it is patrolling by itself- no escorts.
One more thing - while the marines were boarding and fighting on the decks, I could hear repetetly "you have lost recognition" - as if to remind me that with each deck won I got another rank penalty :/ What gives?
Thanks in advance for the helping hand. I really refuse to think this is a "feature" and not a bug of sorts.

I think the drop difference is obvious.
You could accidently shoot down the hyperion (you know, long day at the joystick, fell asleep, finger still on the fire button. Yeh we've all done it! Should have pulled over to the nearest space cafe.) Accident pure and simple. Still naughty so had to be punished a bit at least!
Now intentionally boarding is a whole different ball game! You did it on purpose. Not only was it naughty, but naughty naughty! Lot more punishment. Criminal intent you see!

If it doesn't work, give it a kick. If that doesn't fix it hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't work, USE A BIGGER HAMMER!!!

I can understand this decision ... in TC, I had 4 Hype-V Ultimate Traders that I snatched from their patrols in Pirate sectors, and each only dropped from the top rank to about 80% of the rank below it which means I was back at the top rank for completing a single medium mission. Personally, I enjoyed the exploit while I had it, and will just have to blueprint the 1st one I take and make the rest for my needs at the HQ I recently acquired.
Hmpf.
The difference in rank loss between stealing and destroying is still too big, if I must say.
I will try to look for a patrol containing a Hyperion around the pirate sectors then... or in neighboring systems. Not that actually finding one will be easy. At least, I hope that the rep drop in the pirate sectors won't be 10 ranks

If a friend crashes into your car and wrecks it, you're mad at them but you can still be friends. If a friend breaks into your car and steals it (and let's say there is no legal way to get it back), you are no longer friends and you'd quite like them to fall under the wheels as well.cxmtl wrote:Hmpf.

What's unrealistic is that you can build up your reputation and do it again as many times as you want, and they never try to get their stolen property back
I do get the point, no need to break it up for me.
However, it does ruin the fun element. Since boarding is one of the most fun things to do in the game (especially the rush you get when boarding directly with an M6 for example) it just killed it for me.
They could of at least separated core segments rep penalty from border segments rep penalty.
I get to board a lonesome, lost Hyperion somewhere at the border of the universe and there I am, not even able to buy a bread anymore at the local Paranid trading post.
And building up 10 ranks again is not an easy task really, takes a lot of time!

how skilled where your marines? in my AP game, i started as a poisoned paranid and my hatred of 3 eyes stands... so i snatch ships from them from time to time with rep loss of course, but not more than 3 ranks at a time.
i asked about the skill because i think it counts how long your marines are in the ship. the longer, the more rep loss you will get.

trouble with boarding? try this!

Don't worry so much about the rep-loss shock, cxmtl. Yes, it looks like a lot. However, your notoriety is much higher now, which means that the rep gain from missions is also much higher than it was the first time that you climbed up the reputation ladder.
In other words, even a completely trashed rep takes only a few missions to recover.
