And this thread will inevitably turn into yet another topic about why we don't have more Repair Lasers in vanilla

At least not in vanilla. There are a couple of mods that will give you either buyable repair lasers or repair drones, but that discussion belongs in the S&M forums.

Yeah, sadly. I like MARS for it, since it has other features.

The only thing I can put forward if you want to stay vanilla (unmodded) is to follow the third link of my sig. It will lead you to a thread that has an exploit for TC using the CLS2. With that trick, you can clone every ware of which you got at least one sample

(even the very nice Phased Array Laser Canon that you will find during Operation Final Fury
, but you can also get repair lasers which you can then distribute to every ship capable of carrying them to make it a repair ship. I'd suggest an Aegir from the ATF for this (it can fire 8 from the front indefinetely due to its high laser power), but the Vidar you get during the Terran plot is also fine for this.
Unfortunately, the thread is quite long and I was too lazy to search for the correct page, but for the repair laser it is somewhere beyond page 10...

Repair drones aren't in vanilla, so I'd suggest checking/posting in the S&M forum. As for this thread, *Click*
