The Hub

Post by Echofinder » Fri, 29. Jun 12, 00:12

I dunno if the Hub's ability is considered a spoiler, but I'll spoiler it anyway.

I installed the "All plots finished" mod for AP, as I wanted to be able to use the Hub like I did in TC; since custom games don't have plots.

When I did I found that:
Spoiler
Show
All three gates were fully unlocked, but the first set of gates were linked to Xenon sectors; though that was easily cleaned up.

So the question is, how does one completely turn any given gate pair off?

Once linked, you can only change the links at the gate-pairs.

You cannot switch them off once paired to sectors.

Why turning gates off?
The HUB is the most useful and most powerful tool in player hands.
You are in control of how things move around in your universe.

For example you can re-route ships, you want to board, into the HUB sector.
Boarding the ship is a piece of cake than.

Well, I want to turn it off due to - despite being set to warp between Argon Prime and Herron's Nebula - a Kha'ak Destroyer somehow getting in and destroying my Brigandine and back-up bomber in a fit of OoS Argnu-crap.

The Kha'ak spawn is random.
You were just unlucky.
I have had Kha'ak Destroyers in sensitive sectors before now.
They can be destroyed with the right tactics.

One method is station bombing....
drop a cheap station on top of the destroyer.
You'll have some debris for a few game days, but it will go.

Another method is "devil's eye"...
Get in a fighter and position yourself just inside the back of the destroyer.
You can fire - at - will and it can't touch you with it's weapons.

There are of course traditional methods ,if you have the right ship etc. :)

Or you could just link all the gates between Xenon sectors and let the Xenon do your dirty work

If you're playing AP and have a Khaak Destroyer in your game, then it's due to a mod.. they don't invade any more in AP (and it's a spoiler from TC as to why)
The Hub has to be linked to at least one gate pair - otherwise you couldn't get in to it - so I'm guessing that there's no way to unset that first pair.
