What did the last patch do to X3:TC??
Where: Unknown Sector next to PTNI HQ
When: Terran plot mission to follow the guy back to the pirate base, and scan it.
Who: Split with a Python, 3 Tigers, 6 Vipers, and numerous fighters, vs. 6 Pirate Carracks, a few Ospreys and Centaurs, and even more fighters plus an immortal Pirate Base.
What: Huge battle going on. Explosions everywhere. Dangerous to even get close, let alone scan the pirate base.
How: do I get this done?
Why????
Seriously, this was rediculous. I managed to scan the thing, but amongst all the missiles flying and capital ship weapons blowing up, it was near suicide. How did this happen?

It was most likely just a race and pirate patrol meeting in the same sector. At the start of the game you see a lot of these in different pirate sectors.

This wasn't the start of the game though. I had spent better part of 12 hours getting cash put aside to buy a Mistral Super Freighter outfitted for mining, and a Zephyrus along with a fleet of 4 ships to carry along. From the looks of it they had been fighting for a while though. When I left the fight was still going on.

Only one mod or script, and that's Gazz's MARS. I also have bonus pack.
Also, oddly enough, not every pirate is going red after I scan them for illegal wares and find some. Some aren't even going hostile after I shoot them up a bit. Not sure what's going on here. This all started after Steam had to restructure the game to the new format.

Are you sure they were pirates and not just npc's who happen to have illegal goods on board? If s/he was not a pirate before you scanned them, they will only turn red if there ship is then named 'pirate xxxx', where xxxx is the ship. Example:Zippo342 wrote:Also, oddly enough, not every pirate is going red after I scan them for illegal wares and find some.
You scan ship 'Paranid Demeter'. If s/he is a pirate it will then turn red and become 'pirate Demeter'. If the ship stays blue and the name is still 'Paranid Demeter' then s/he is not a pirate, just a smuggler.
I hope you can follow my logic. It's the best way I can describe it.
If it doesn't work, give it a kick. If that doesn't fix it hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't work, USE A BIGGER HAMMER!!!

Not strictly true.Sinxar wrote:To add to that, not all wares are illegal everywhere such as weed in teladi space.
Although you can build a 'weed' factory or own a station that buys it without any ramification, it is still illegal to be caught with it in Teladi space. If sector security i.e. police or customs, scan your ship and find weed aboard they may well order you to surrender your cargo.

Wrong. Spaceweed is NOT illegal in Teladi space and the cops that scan you will not order you to drop it or fire on you.Coreblimey wrote:Not strictly true.Sinxar wrote:To add to that, not all wares are illegal everywhere such as weed in teladi space.

I just tried this. loaded up with weed and swamp plant and they didn't do anything after scanning.Nanook wrote:Wrong. It's not often I'm right, but I'm wrong again!
I think I was getting confused with that scanning mission in TC. It was a private entrepreneur I was working for and not security.

To add something to your "illegal wares"-discussion Zippo342 already said that this meeting of race patrol and pirate ships happened in an Unknown sector, where no wares are illegal.

He said "When I left the fight was still going on". Along with "not every pirate is going red after I scan them for illegal wares and find some".X2-Illuminatus wrote:To add something to your "illegal wares"-discussion Zippo342 already said that this meeting of race patrol and pirate ships happened in an Unknown sector, where no wares are illegal.
I took that to mean he left that sector and perhaps was scanning ships nearby. Since thats a Teladi area it would make sense that he is finding weed on some people and they arn't turning red.
Unless I missed something, or my analysis of his post is incorrect?

Ah sorry, I see what you mean. Must have missed the OP's latest post, thought you would still be talking about the initial problem.

Um... no the scanning happened later in the plot. Where you're looking for spaceweed. However oddly enough each one not only came up as Pirate after scanning, they also had Spacefuel (Illegal) aboard too. I thought that was odd as well as every time I did this before they only had the spaceweed which as you said is not illegal in Teladi space.
Also when scanning, you can tell if something is illegal or not when it has (Illegal) beside it. Spaceweed did not have this tag, but the Spacefuel did.

Well the immortal pirate base makes sense, at that point it's required for the plot. The Split group could have been chasing some ship or other to the other pirate base (presumably destroyed at this point), then got distracted shooting the indestructible pirate base. Not sure about the pirate ships though, never seen any capitals in that sector.
Anyone know if pirate bases call for backup when attacked?

You'll probably just get the "pirates will hunt you down" voiceover.Callidus Thorn wrote:Anyone know if pirate bases call for backup when attacked?

Zippo342, what fight rank were you when you entered the Unknown Sector, and what ship were you flying? That plot mission may have adjusted itself to those two parameters, giving you a 'suitable' challenge.
Also, I'm not at my game computer right now, so I can't check, but is that Unknown Sector listed as owned by Pirates on the Galaxy Map? If so, those pirate capital ships and escorts were most likely just a random pirate spawn, which can happen in any pirate sector.
