Does ship race matter?

I found on the internet that an abandoned Advanced Eclipse can be found in Ocracoke’s Storm. However it is Pirate owned so if I try to sell it at Argon Prime will it get attacked??

No. Abandoned ships belong to no one.

To elaborate: The pirate designation basically means it's a "Hot-rod" Elite, with a flame paint-job and tricked-out stats that you won't find on an "average" Elite.

Except in the case of the Eclipse which he is talking about, the Pirate variant looks completely different to the Argon variant, for some odd reason.

A lot of the ships you find abandoned are rare / not normally sold at stations. If you look at the names, the ship is often a Prototype or Advanced version, or a Pirate version. The stats are slightly different from the base version of that ship that you can find at shipyards.

Quite a few people keep these ships for later.
