X2 General Weapon Damage Question

Post by purplefox8 » Sun, 5. Aug 12, 07:25

i found a site with what seems to be most or all weapons in the X2 game. The chart show that the Alpha PAC is worst then the Gamma IRE - is that true?

i would have thought that the 1st tier weapons would be weaker then the later tiers.

is this chart accurate?

Pretty sure that's accurate, yes, but in most cases a ship that can use APACs can also use BPACs, so you just put the better ones on. APAC does have *one* advantage over GIRE--pretty sure it has a longer range, although by how much I'm not sure.

Here's a chart that also lists weapon range and projectile speed: http://roguey.co.uk/x2/help/lasers.php

The APAC has about 300 metres longer range, but the projectiles are half as fast, so you'll have a hard time hitting anything at long range anyway.

I hadn't thought of this before, but it does seem like the GIRE is overall a better weapon.

that seems like a downer, but my optimistic side says that is more variety.

Another Question but is off topic: How to obtain a pilot to do my trading for a station of mine? (bonus pack)

-have spare ship docked with the station
-set home

what more is needed to be done? i have read around the forum about hiring pilots to take the helm and is better then just the ship AI'ing itself as you need to do it every time it comes back.

If you want to to buy energy cells or some other product your station requires, you need Trade Command Software MK1 and MK2 installed. Once you have that and have set the station as home base, you can go into the trade menu in the ship's command console and choose "buy ware for best price". Make sure to set a reasonable buying price in the station first though.

thanks for the replies.

yea i have those softwares and more, but would like a pilot to do the shopping as they are more self directed with my set perimeters.

Then another off topic question(s) (sorry) but what sector can i purchase a laser tower for my station? and 2 laser tower is the max yes? (those Khaaks in Ore Belt are annoying..).

I don't really understand what you want your pilot to do? Buy wares that your station needs in its production? Buy specific items you look for? Fly around space and trade all kinds of wares to make money for you?

Laser towers can be purchased at various trading stations throughout space and at laser tower factories. The trading station in Ore Belt does sell them, if it has any in stock. So does the trading station of the neighbouring system Cloudebase Southeast. Trading stations or factories will never have more than two in stock at a time, but that doesn't stop you from buying more from another source.

I'm not sure how effective laser towers are against khaak though. I've never tried them. I rely on patrolling ships for protection instead.

i have read around that these hired pilots are suppose to better them the ship doing it themselves, i do not remember the technical details. my 24y/o mind doesnt comprehend what i have read ._.

Thanks, for the heads up where to get the LTs. i could not find any LT factories :(

And yeah i was hoping a patrol ship would come (did not come for hours) but a single khaak ship kepted on the attack (the station is totally fine just want it eliminated or to go away).

With patrolling ships I meant that I have my own patrols. I use Argon Centaurs for defence, but they cost about 10 million each to buy and equip. You can get A LOT of laser towers for that. I'm sceptic about laser towers myself, but I was just told in another thread that 50 of them are enough to fend off Xenon m2 destroyers, so then a single one ought to be enough for a Khaak m5.

As for pilots - I guess maybe you are talking about this: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=59265

I don't use them since I only have Solar Power Plants which work fine with ordinary freighters and Closed loops which use CLS pilots. But the instructions seem easy enough.

You can buy the upgrade at Boron equipment dock. If it works like other pilot scrips, you won't need to hire a pilot - you'll get one automatically.

The PACs in X2 are extremely efficient compared to IREs, so while your Jaguar will fire APACs for a reasonably long time it'll run out of juice quickly using GIREs.
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

That's right! GIRE use 90% of APAC energy but fire 150% faster, so the GIRE uses 35% more energy per second than the APAC. I knew there had to be some drawback with the GIRE!

Yes, that is exactly the one i am talking about. That will also be in the X2 downloads, listed as "bonus pack."

and when you put those kind of numbers up in comparison of those weapons... well, nicely said.

as for patrols... I do not have any. I only have like 24 hours+ in progress. 50 laser towers seem very... space clutter-y XD. hmm. any suggestion for a cheaper alternative solution? or even a mixture of LTs and patrol?

I don't think you need 50 laser towers. That was what someone suggested me to get for fending off Xenon destroyers. There won't come any of those into Ore belt, so don't worry. The worst you'll face there are Khaak clusters. Dunno how many laser towers you'll need as I haven't tried them myself, but I'm sure you don't need 50 anyway. More like 5 maybe.
