Random Thought of the Day: Why are there no custom pirate variants of split ships?

.. OR, maybe the Pirates and the Split have an 'understanding' involving the supply of ship parts, space flies and slaves in return for free passage of Split convoys and general harrassment of those of their competitors. Hence the Pirates don't have to jury-rig their Split ships to keep them going using ill-fitting and off-spec parts that affect their already-good stats.

but if that was the case wouldnt it be true for the teladi as well? lore wise they would be the ones most likely to have something like that worked out... but the pirates make custom Teladi ships...

Teladi have nothing (legally) that the Pirates want and cannot get by piracy.

Pirates tend to like fast, lightly shielded ships. This is already the Split thing. There's very little need to modify them.

Teladi ships are slow and heavily shielded. (For their class.) So the pirates tend to drop a shield and add some speed to them.
