X3AP - Hyperion

Post by G-MAN77 » Tue, 28. Aug 12, 20:52

Just a quick question. How do you get Hyperion in X3AP?
In X3TC there were loads of them flying around and were easily capped.
I have just started and have seen none flying around will they pop up?

Look for at least one in the Paranid sectors central to the Galaxy map. You can also check your in-game encyclopaedia to see if you have met one yet.

PS. If you have just started the game then unless you did a Paranid start, why would you expect to have seen them? There is a war on you know!

I got mine in a Paranid sector around Cardinals Domain.
They even wonder in to nearby pirate sectors without escorts. That would be the best chance to cap it.
& as I know (experienced), it is the easiest ship to cap.

What about X4? Nah, I prefer a space simulator rather than a walking simulator.

I have 13 of them, and you can usually find one in a Paranid sector that has a Military Outpost.

Capturing the Hyperion is, quite frankly, impossible. Let me explain why:

First, capturing ships in the game requires the use of Salvage Corvettes. I thought this meant Teladi corvettes as they look like they are made of salvage, but that was me giving the devs too much credit. The game manual I had open in front of me said that both the "Taidan" and the "Kushan" have salvage corvettes, but I can't find either of the races in my game! HUGE OVERSIGHT ON THIS ONE, folks. Sierra should do a better job.

Second, according to what I've read online after drinking four vodkas at two in the morning while weeping inconsolably about something unrelated, the salvage corvettes are the first thing the enemy fleet will target! Someone suggested sending repair frigates after them, but, big surprise, THOSE aren't in the game, either! Inexcusable.

Third? The corvettes are supposed to haul the captured vessel to my mothership. Again, another huge let down. My ship, despite being able to handle "M" class cargo, won't accept the M6-sized ship. When I move in to dock the M6, there's a clipping bug and my mothership explodes! My ship is a DISCOVERER, not an EXPLODER. How many Sundays did Sierra take off, anyway?

Finally, I...huh.

Oh.

I was reading the manual to Homeworld. My B.

In that case, scout around for a Hyperion. Follow it at a distance until it's by itself somewhere, hopefully in a pirate sector. Sluggy uses AOE missiles to clear off fighter escorts if that helps. Otherwise, it's all standard boarding operations.

Don't forget, you sometimes need up to 3 salvage corvettes to capture those ships, otherwise they spin uselessly in space.

Hey,
Capturing the Hyperion in AP can be abit of a pain, since they can be hard to find...U usually find one or two flying around in the south eastern group of paranid sectors, not the main one, with paranid prime. though i did find one in trinity sanctum once...

Anyhow, its quite possible to board using another m6 with marines, by the spacewalk type of boarding. Due to the high mobility&speed of the hyperion though, its quite tricky. recomend you fry it with ion distruptors quite abit first to remove most of the turrents... as you prob know hyperion have good turrent coverage :)

hope that helps alittle

Talk is cheap simply because supply exceeds demand.

I went straight for the overkill:

I met the Hyperion Vanguard with a Split Cobra, 20 marines onboard and a sh1tload of missiles. Locating the ship wasn't hard -my satellite network made sure of that. The marines, were ranging from 3 to 5 stars in combat and all of them had been trained to 5 stars (100) in Engineering, Mechanical & Hacking. Ofcourse, I launched only 10 of them.

Shortly later, the Yacht of Maximus Paranidia was mine and heading straight to the HQ -and the reverse engineering queue. A couple of hours later and after dealing with my Paranid reputation hit, I boarded an Argon Centaur Prototype, also with 100% success.

The future can only be bright :D

It is playable (when unlocked) and the same as in TC.

Hyperion Capping:

I got my first using The Katana (Terran start) space walked the troops in

Second one I blew up by overzealous use of flails using a cobra

Third I started tracking in Paranid prime (right monitor) trick, got it in empired edge.
using flails at long intervals with only 80% left of the hull after the cap.

The third one is the one I R-ed as I like it to much to wait till thats been done now planning a sqaudron of them for my Kyoto.
When traveling pause occasionally, look back and enjoy the moment again.

Got my latest one after a new game start using a Centaur it had wandered into Yaki space and I got to it before they did...
I find the way that works for me is to get up close below it and aim to take out as much of the shielding as possible before it turns red, CIGs seem to work ok for this so...

Stay very close to it until shields are at about 1% then turn off your turrets and launch your marines (the Hyperion does a lot of twisting and turning so I find its better to launch marines as it is turning in towards you again) switch to using only 1 CIG or a couple of PACs in main gun slots to keep the shields down until your marines cut through the hull then get the hell away from the thing as quick as possible and let the marines do their job... Your own ship will take a lot of damage I usually end up with about 85% hull left doing it this way but it works for me...

If it is red already then your better off using missiles to get the shields down before moving in close and approach it from the side and launch marines when it is turning in towards you again...
It's not really that difficult to board, the Heavy Centaur Prototype though in comparison seems to be much harder using that technique due to its side turrets and the fact they nearly always blast you with Ion weapons and launch fighter drones after you...

Like I say that works for my play style after trying countless times in the past to follow instructions from some of the boarding guides only to find I usually end up blowing the target ship to smithereens or loosing all my marines after launch as they fail to reach the targets hull...

Or use a M7M if you can afford one and do it from a safe distance following the boarding guides but just use flails on the target if its an M6 as its way to easy to nuke the target with hammers in this case lol
