X3TC Freighters
What's your preference for hauling stuff, personally I tend to find Split TS's a very good all round performer with reasonable cargo space and good speed.

Split Caiman Haulers work best for me.

OTAS Mistral, used to use the Split Caiman with Split pilots, now its the Mistral with Argon pilots, it is faster and has more cargo space, also its worth remembering to NOT upgrade the cargo space, let the ST pilot upgrade it when they want to, reason being less cargo space means a station wont overload on a product from your ST which means the ST will do more journeys, make more profitsss and thus gain levels a little quicker.

Mistral SF for large volume, non-time sensitive things like Ore. Mistrals and Caiman's for more dense, or time sensitive wares, like Energy cells or crystals.
The Angel is also handy for the high value stuff, like microchips.

OTAS Mistral, usually with max speed & turning but not cargo space, but I've got a mix of every race & variants.
Baldrics cos I'm too impatient to wait for anything else to work its way into Terran (snail) space
Super Frieghters, with max cargo space, that just sit in 'plexes loading weapons, ammo, etc until I can be bothered to buy a TL and transfer a CAG to store them against the day I declare war on the Khaak, Xenon, Pirates, Yaki, etc... (again)
Some fighters (Busters/Discos) to train CAGs and sob the lesser peeps off with a weapon or shield or 2...
but generally outside of terran space most ST, UT, CAG, & CLS are now Mistrals, which I buy 10 at a time & fit out against a future need when they are available in L versions, again cos I'm too lazy to haul 25MJ shields (even though I make dozens/hr)...

Bring back the TS Pirate Ship, I miss my liberated fleet runing around the universe
Maybe a fleet of liberated Pirate Ship Super Freighters
"Priests Dukes Compliments... Here is ship!"
"Teladi now show you how to fight... Ship all yours! Dont kill Teladi!"

Baldric and regular mistral for most jobs and working the trading hub. Mistral superfrieghter for personally filling up new stations with e-cells and other odd jobs, he's now using his space to buy silicon for the hub quicker. A Boron Superfrieghter I'm personally attatched to attends to a complex and an assortment random locally found frieghters supplement energy use in complexes. A Caiman miner that does a much better job than a mercury tanker at mining.
For factory/complex freighters, I mostly use Mercury Haulers. A nice balance of cargo & speed imo, as well as much cheaper than the Mistrals and reasonably good-looking. For high-volume runs, I go with Mistral SF. I'll occasionally use regular Mistrals instead of Mercury Haulers, but that's hard to justify and is mostly about the convenience of speed/homogeneity.
For personal resupply, cargo delivery missions, & miscellaneous tasks, regular Mistrals and Mistral SFs. CLS2 ships are either Mercury Haulers or Mistrals, depending on the task.
For runs that are more about aesthetics than efficiency, Vulture Miners (since they're the fastest Vulture).

I'll go for just about anything that will get the job done, but I prefer Mistrals if I'm friendly with the Argons and Caimans if I'm not. Regular versions for everyday cargo hauling, CLS/CAGs, sector- and local traders, and SFs for storing stuff and hauling massive amounts of goods should the need arise.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am

I use pretty much whatever's readily available, though I do have a couple preferences. I like Baldrics and Mistrals for high-value cargo, since they're fast and tough. I don't generally use Mistral SFs except with bulky goods like silicon, or lots-of-stuff-per-load goods like ecells; I generally prefer Haulers of various types.

Depends what you're hauling. For selling or transporting small stuff like weapons and missiles, I used to use a fleet of Boron Mako M4s, as they are much cheaper and faster than a TS, with good cargo bay for their size.
For TS's though, I tend to just get what I can. Given that a lot of their work involves either moving from place to place by jumpdrive or short milk runs between complexes, and they'll rarely be at full capacity, I don't feel cargo bay size or speed are that important. Maybe if you're using them to supply a complex with energy cells then you'll need one with a big cargo bay (preferably a superfreighter) but generally I just use what I've capped or what's available in the nearest shipyard.

i use many of them, for my terran complex's i have baldrics, for my Split Complex's i have Split Caiman Super Freighter XL (For their big cargo holds), and for the Teladi Complex's i had a few Teladi Vulture Tanker(thinking about getting a few Tern's) but then the argon (USC Commander start) thought they would make good target practice, that and i get raided by pirates a lot, i don't have any 'Nid, Boron, or Argon stuff, because i am trying to get some more money so i can buy and outfit my soon to be flagship (Ether a Wooden, Odin, or Tyr or i might when my split rank get high enough i will go with one of their M2's), but if i had a Paranid Complex i would use a Paranid Snotra, or a Paranid Demeter Super Freighter XL, and for the Argon's it would be the Mistrals or Mistrals SF, and for the Borons it would be Boron Sturgeon or the Boron Dolphin Super Freighter XL, as you can tell i want ships that can hold A lot
I have many of the different kinds of TS's available.
I found "jobs" that I think fit each one's stats pretty well.
One Mistral is an escort ships to carry fuel and missiles and other one follows to pickup/store salvage.
Dolphins and Vultures work my remote mining area.
Caiman XL and Mistral XL's move products from Complexes to TL's waiting at Equipment Docks.
Mercury, Baldric, and Demeter TS's work a lot of my local trading.
I find the 'Hauler', 'Super', and 'Super XL' varieties most useful.
Which is best?
I don't know. If I had to reduce my fleet I would probably keep the Mistrals and Caiman.

Looks are one of the reasons I primarily use Mistrals and MSF's out of sector so I don't have to look at them.
Caimans are good at most of the things the Mistrals can do, and don't really have much downside. Shields don't matter because they shouldn't be in combat, and cargo doesn't matter unless it's time sensitive like 'deliver x billion items in y seconds'.
