[X3:TC] "Sorry for Capping one of your ships ..."

Post by zapza » Tue, 18. Sep 12, 22:55

Hello again - quick question on 'clearing up' after capping;

I've attempted to refine my M7M capping expeditions by stealing upwards of 30 Zeus M1s from the Duke - extremely profitable and I now have nearly 5 Cobras all crewed by marines who are all trained up to 5 stars (including 100 fighting).

So far, so good.

Along the way I've also 'taken' a few Hyperions and a couple of Agamemnons from my pals the Paranid together with a few Pirate ships and the odd ATF missile boat.

With the Pirates and the Duke there's no need to 'apologise' so no real problems there.

My Race Rank is quite high with everyone and I'm now looking to expand my capping into other Race Sectors.

But, once or twice, especially with the Paranid, the 'apologising part' hasn't always been straightforward. On at least one occasion (and I think maybe twice) I've 'apologised' to a few nearby Police and/or Military etc only to find that they don't simply acknowledge the 'apology' by immediately turning blue; sometimes several such apologies seem to do the trick, sometimes not.

On the one occasion I mentioned above, after making my 'apologies' I jumped into an adjacent Sector only to find a few "Red" Police who I had to chase down in order to make yet more apologies following which they finally turned Blue.

This makes me wonder what might have happened had I not accidentally stumbled upon the Red ships in that adjacent Sector.

So,

1. Is it possible to go through all the business of 'apologising' to the Red ships in that Sector you've just managed to Cap your latest prize, only for one of these red-faced buggers to slip away unnoticed?

2. Could there be some other Red ships floating around out there which might turn up unexpectedly to cause a few problems at some time in the future?

:?
Didn't mean to be quite so long-winded but hopefully you get the picture.

It's not a straght answer to your questins - everything is possible, so save right before boarding is complete so if apology process will go wrong you would reload. Also, apologize to the biggest ship first - it will turn its escort ships blue.

Thanks vradchuk - that's a good tip re apologising to the biggest ship first - I'll certainly do that in future.

Still not really sure about this.

I just capped an Odysseus in Trinity Sanctum. I've apologised to all and sundry including another Odysseus, a pair of Zeus and several Paranid Police - all of them accept my apology EXCEPT one "Paranid Police Pericles Raider".

This guy just asks me if I am "empty of the mind" and I don't get an option to apologise for the friendly fire.

- Little sh*tbag that he is. I've chased him all around the sector but no luck yet.

The odd thing is that he appears red to me on the screen yet when I open the 'Sector Map' window he is listed there as Blue.

(I took a bit of a rep hit, but currently at 1% Paranid Honor Guard of Xaar)

Should I

a. Blast the little sod and get on with my life?
b. Keep chasing him and hope he'll give me the chance to apologise?
c. Jump out and go kick the Duke right up his big fat Zeus?
d. just ignore him and hope he doesn't come back to trouble me another day?
e. go back to a previous save and do something else?

I'm confused; any help or advice would be much appreciated . . .

Just ignore him. The game is a bit stupid about it sometimes.

Not all ships will accept your apology, some AI pilots actually have a brain. These ships will attack your ships and assets and this will happen over the ships entire patrol pattern.

Try multiple apologies and apologize to other ships first and try them again.

You can leave the sector and return to apologize again.

If this does not work, you will need to destroy them.

Thanks for the feedback on this.

I've mixed & matched your advice over my last few cappings in Paranid sectors. Most apologies were accepted but a few were declined, so I've just ignored 'em and, it seems, they've 'gone away'. No major rep loss and a Paranid Police licence whenever I want one . . . (as if)

I know I'm a bit late on this, but... I've noticed that M7 or larger makes you an enemy of the state pretty instantly. Similarly, doing piracy in that race's core sectors gets you a bad rep very quickly. But you can (somewhat) safely cap M6s in border sectors with a regular sized rep loss.

However, if you hire a TL and take it to a pirate sector, then attacking it makes you an enemy very quickly. Boarding pods specifically seem to incur a very large rep loss.
