Relationship advice: the Yaki are mad at me, how do I win their love back?

Post by shadyJ » Fri, 5. Oct 12, 04:25

Like the title said, I kind of killed a bunch of Yaki and now they are angry with me and won't let me dock at their stations. How do I repair this relationship? I want to buy some of their spaceships. This is for Albion Prelude, btw, running the rebalance mod.

Well assuming that mod doesn't change Paranid behaviour much, they periodically send patrols (usually capital ships like Deimos etc and some fighters in support) into Ocracoke's Storm (which is a Yaki border sector). If you kill these Paranid ships (in Ocracoke's Storm), you gain favour with the Yaki. Of course you'll lose some Paranid rep, but that is much easier to regain than Yaki. You can see if any ships have a mission to destroy the Yaki by looking at military bases "owned ships" and checking out the capital ships ... they usually tell you what their current sector and destination is. You may need some Adv NavSats in Savage Spur & Ocracoke's Storm to see if any Paranid ships are wibbling around in those sectors.

Also you occasionally see Yaki ships flying around in sector. If they are red to you, you can still comm them & get their destroy convoy mission if you go through the sector map and comm them from there (instead of comming directly). At least that's what I have read on these forums, never tested it myself since my rep with the Yaki is good (one of the 1st things I work on).

Hope this helps. :pirat:

If I built a station in a Yaki sector, could that somehow raise my rep with them?

No, they will just destroy the station. If you've done the HUB mission you can move the gate to channel some Paranid/Xenon ship into Yaki space, other than that try to look for those pirate hack missionss that turn stations back to blue. Also I've found that the Yaki ships that offer combat missions usually quickly disappear before you can com them, making it impossible to get the missions. All in all it's very hard to get them liking you again.

The trick is to comm them via the sector map screen without selecting the ship as target.

If you're already running a modified game, and you don't mind a bit of extra 'rebalancing' in your favour, TECSG's SCS script package (which imo is excellent, and tries to be balanced in its own way, rather than simply downright cheating) includes a really useful function to 'return' ships to their originator race, for an increase in rep. I had cause to use it with the Yaki in one game, iirc 'returning' a Chok got me a couple of levels increase.

When you get retrieve ship missions, you can take the ships to Ocracoakes and wait for the timer to run out on the mission, then usually after 8 or 10 minutes a small task force will spawn to take down your "stolen" ship, kill them after jumping the stolen ship to safety.
I was actually after a way to kill off the task force without doing it myself and losing rep with whoever, I was advised to take the retrieved ship (m7s) to the yaki ship yard and let the yaki kill off the spawning police.
This works only partly, first, you need a good standing, and secondly you don't have time to get the m7 to the shipyard - which is some crazy distance from any gate. What i did instead was have the stolen ship waiting for the police to spawn at one gate, then just jump the ship to the other side of the sector when the police spawn and let the yakis move in as the task force try to cross the sector.

What I quickly realised was that this is also a perfect way to rep up to get IBL fab access in Weavers... Take your stolen ship to somewhere clear of yaki ships, kill the police, rep up.

You can do that to go to Paranid Prime and higher the TL there and send it to the Yaki boarder sector. Most of the time the TLs will still have their fighter escorts.
