Post by BankruptAssasin » Mon, 8. Oct 12, 20:41

I have been playing x3tc for a few years, only got bk in2 it in the last 2 weeks, everything workin fine until last nite, game has not crashed 7-8 times and it has only happened since i installed it. Its not a mod tht i can uninstall with the plugin manager, its a script. can you tell me how i remove it without corrupting my game save. Plz :) oh and can you tell me in laymans terms, not very technical with scripts. Cheers guys.

I would be really suprised if its the PG thats causing your crash.

If you need to uninstall it, the script came with a .bat file that is located in your ap addon or TC folder depending where you installed it. Just run the bat file and it will remove the files. Be sure and disable it in game first (AL menu).

Thanks for the reply. i will try tht when i get home. i really hope it is tht, im really enjoying it this time round and even have marines all 5* trained in everything pretty much. i have npc bail addon, improved boardings, race wars, no wrecks, no fog, and a few others installed, but game was running fine until pg was installed, we shall see what happens. i will report bk.

p.s

i only happens when im trying to view some sectors or tell my other ships to dock of tht narrows any issues down.

Sound issues can have those symptoms. Have you used anything that changes sounds or music in game? Did the game work reliably in the past?

It used to crash on the old pc, on my new system it was glitchy until i updated it thanks to a few people on here, since then it worked perfectly. i havent installed any new sounds or music, other than those tht come with the scripts like pg with new screen shots etc.

Yeah. Thats certainly not related to PG then so you can rule that out. Odd crash. Drbullwinkle may be on to something though.

Crash to Desktop (CTD) is not very common in X3... there are only a few common causes. You might want to check out the stickies in the tech support forum. They list common problems and solutions, including several common sound issues.

Do you have a file called x3crash.log in the same directory as your games exe?, if so - open up the file and paste the story engine call stack here (not the stack dump, just the call stack - it should appear directory below "Process owned by user: <username>")

If it doesn't exist, or says story engine not active, ignore this statement.

I finish work in an couple of hours, i will look at it then and try some of the other suggestions on the sticky - this crash is the reason i get fed up playing this game - you spend weeks off ur life playing this, researching and micromanaging, then a random crash over something most likely simple throws a spanner into the works.

Edit - I will also post my Dxdiag - i think everything is up to date, it was after the last time i posted it up on this forum, that was back in March so there may be newer updates.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have reinstalled all the bonus packs, have cleaned up my computer so that only thing running is the game and my virus software, it has crashed 3 times today and 13 times yesterday. What i have noticed is that the music skips before it crashes - i go to select certain sectors - all the cloudbase areas, ghinns escape and a few paranid places and it just crashes.

Cheers

Looking at the dxdiag report, I see a couple of issues, one with video and one with sound. First, the video in your computer isn't really supported by the game since it's onboard and Intel. It also has only 64 MB of dedicated VRAM, which is far below the minimum. So your system may have a conflict between using the main RAM for video and for the CPU. And since the game is heavily CPU and memory dependent, this can cause issues.

Second, your sound drivers predate Windows 7 and should be updated. Go to Realtek's website to get current drivers. Hopefully, this will fix your crashing problem, since there's not much to be done about the video at this point.

Adding to what Nanook said. Since you already have a x64 OS, you could usefully add another say 2 GB of fitted RAM to make up for the shared memory your graphics chipset will be using for lack of enough dedicated VRAM.

Hopefully the HD Audio driver update from RealTek will help with your immediate problem.

Your 3rd party script might not have directly caused the issue you have, but it might have addditionally taxed your system within the game to the point that the issues started to happen earlier in your game than they might otherwise have appeared in vanilla.

Thanks for the replies, I was wondering if it was possible to add more ram to my Laptop? I was always under the impression that you couldn't really upgrade laptops like you can with a Desktop Computer.

Can i add a new graphics card to the laptop as well? Sound card? or is this only possible with Desktop Computers?

Do you think adding the extra Ram will help? I think i can upgrade my system up to 8gb of Ram fairly cheaply and would be willing to do so if you think it would help.

New graphics card, not if there isn't space for a replacement designed into the laptop.

More RAM is possible if the user handbook says there are spare slots for it. Make sure you only get RAM modules that are compatible with your laptop and will work with what you have now - check the laptop and RAM manufacturer's sites for such details. Also check in the handbook that there are no anti-tamper measures on the laptop casing to stop anyone but the manufacturers or equipped workshops doing the upgrade. I don't know if invalidating warranty by opening the case is still an isse either.

You don't need another soundcard, just download the latest Win7 x64 HD Audio driver from RealTek and update as Nanook said. You can buy an external USB sound device, but you really don't need one I would say.

One important question though, do you really want to spend money on making a non-gaming laptop more suitable for gaming, even though at best the results will be less than amazing?

Thanks for the reply, I couldn't find that driver Nanook mentioned, so ive just bought a CREATIVE Sound Blaster Play! 7.1-Channel USB Sound Card - I hope this is better than what is on my laptop, but was fairly inexpensive.

I don't really need a high performance machine, X3TC is the only "high performance" game i play, actually there's only that and the Football manager series i play on PC/Laptop, and it seems that there is only a few issues that needs sorting before it should work. 2 new 4gb Ram & the usb sound driver just cost £50 including delivery, a decent high performance machine is going to set me back a few hundred £, which i cant afford right now, plus i wouldn't justify it to play 1 game, the graphics i cant really do much about without pulling the laptop apart which i'm not prepared to do, but the graphics seem okay while playing, no lagging even when in sectors like the ore belt so i don't think that will be an issue.

If this works then happy days, if not then TC will be politely threw against a wall, smashed up with a hammer and then chucked in the bin

Memory is the best price-to-performance upgrade for most computers, and almost every user can take advantage of at least 4GB.

Memory is roughly a thousand times faster than disk, and more memory means less swapping (up to the point where you can keep everything you use in memory at all times).

Be sure to disable the RealTek sound hardware if you do. Running multiple sound systems and drivers can sometimes cause problems, especially with the X games.
