TS agression problem: race relationship...

Post by gleak » Wed, 31. Oct 12, 17:52

i now manage a good hand of TS (cag and MK3) , but i just witnessed a problem.

my TM has been assault by argon ship, in return , he fight back (i set him in defense mode only, with smart weapon system)
after that, i saw teladi police take side for argon . my rank is teladi company holder 95% , so a good rank.

why teladi police fought back my TM , knowing that argon assault me first ?

ps: all my trader are set friendly with all race except xenon. it's maybe not the best way to go

If your ship fires on a 'friendly'** ship in another race's sectors, that race will defend them. In your case, you can't legally defend yourself against the Argon in Teladi space. You get blamed for starting it, no matter who actually did.

**Argon are friendly with the Teladi.

i did the mistake to gear my TS with weapons. each time an argon try me , my full spec TS punish them, and i lose rank.
if i remove my TS weapons , they will be unable to defend against pirate. i'm clueless now.
as i understand this situation , i can't even patrol near my stations, because my unit will respond to argon stimulus.
i must reach paranid sectors then right ? i must move all my goods overthere.

Don't put weapons on them. Set Emergency jump to 90% so they'll run away. Get fast freighters like the mistral.

I think you need to try and work out why the Argon attacked you in the first place. Is the freighter running contraband? Do you have any patrolling warships that might've gotten their IFF screwed up (it happens)? Have you personally done anything recently to piss off the Argon?

Also, freighters can't really carry enough guns to make a difference in combat. Best they can do is fire a few shots ineffectually while they emergency jump out of the sector.

@ kolimbo: TSs don't get an emergency jump option the player can set, also Mk3 traders use their own scripts and not the player settings.

exact, i tried to find this feature , but i was surprised to not find it ! TS , that's why.

i'm the worst enemy of argon federation. is that not enough to make them attack me ? usually weapon dealer and/or their escort fight my baldric.
after that, split or teladi police invite themself to the party, and the pain in the ass start.

Well, maybe you need to become more friendly with the Argon before deploying ships that can potentially go to locations where Argon warships are to be found? Just staying out of Argon space isn't enough--their patrols often go into pirate territory or even the sectors of other races.

i succeeded to program a working blacklist , wich my me able to avoid all the warship. i mean , the only encounter occured was transporter and their escort. i'm terran commander, so , trading with argon is not possible , nor wanted.

i will keep it like that for a while , i have 36M in bank account. my pocket is burning me

That'll work :P

For my traders, I usually set up a TM with a few hangar spots and make it my impromptu trader for hostile territory. Smaller cargo hold, sure, but enough to make a difference, plus hold a few escort craft.

Could be easier if I took the time to learn more about fighter drones but I like escort ships more ;P
Insert something witty here, some day...

@ Barklight: The only other problem with a TM as a trader with fighters aboard is that sooner or later, your fighters will deploy and your trader will jump out to escape. If your fighters survive yet don't have jump capability or fuel (they don't auto-refuel as the trader does) then they will follow the TM the slow way and will either die crossing a hostile sector or can never catch up and will not be around when the trader is next attacked.

I found that escorts often just add to the losses if your trader encounters anything powerful. Good shields and drones to allow the trader time to jump out are a better bet but I am not 100% sure that TMs will auto-deploy drones the way a TS does.

actually, i can't fight back, because i need to trade in teladi (it's the most problematic area in fact) and split sector , so loss is a part of my budget. i just don't want to lose more than 1 TS every 10M . it's my limit.

i have now 43M , choices will be numbered ! small M7C ? or real M7 with fighter dock bay . i have 7 fighter now, 2 M3 , 3 M4, and 2 M5.

Wow, so you're basically Public Enemy #1. That'll do it every time. Out of curiosity, you playing AP with the Terran start?

Ground your fleet for a while (or at least restrict them to Paranid and Split sectors, and Terran if you're playing AP; the 'nids and Terrans are actively hostile to the Argon and the Split are neutral) and try to bring your rep up to at least Citizen. Take short jaunts into Black Hole Sun to kill the Xenon that come through the north gate, and jump back out if any military ships reach firing range. Try and find Argon quest givers in non-Argon sectors (don't know if there will be any at that low rep, but keep an eye out). Take combat missions from non-Argon at Argon stations (the enemies will be pirates or Yaki).

Mind you, at that low rank, it's going to take a while.
