Red Laser Towers and the pain they bring
I started a new game recently with the Bankrupt Assassin start. After a couple restarts I figured it out pretty quick, and without killing a single person by my own hand I managed to slip into Argon Core space then eventually through Teladi and into Terran space. I scoured the galaxy for Boron and Paranid in need, and eventually got my ranks with both to +3.
I then went back through their own territory, apologizing wherever I could. For the most part it's been a success and I'm no longer terrified to go into a Core Boron sector. I'd like to build up an empire now, but there are three tiny things that have me concerned.
1) Red Mercenaries. These guys belong to Boron and Paranid and are floating around Omnicron Lyrae. Even with my reputation, they don't present me with an apology option - only with a Surrender option. I'm trying to roleplay a 'repentant' assassin and come to terms with them peacefully, but it seems that might not be an option. Any ideas on how to turn them blue?
2) Red Stations. Throughout Boron and Teladi space is a random station that is red. The ones I've scanned I notice don't have any owned ships, and there's no one I can talk to at the station to fix things. They don't ever offer me quests, or at least I haven't seen them do such. I generally root around the area until I find a station hacking quest and use that. Unfortunately that's a little a tedious. Is there another way, or should I just deal with it?
and lastly...
3) Red lasertowers. So far I've only found 2 of these, but they are inside Boron or Paranid space and aren't near anything else that's red. There's no red stations nearby, no red patrols or ships... in fact, in one sector, the lasertower is the only thing which is red to me. Sadly, station hacking quests seem to exclude laser towers (or do they? I haven't seen an option.) I'd like to do business in these sectors without having to destroy the lasertower. Any options there?
I appreciate any suggestions in advance!

I should have mentioned: I am playing TC.
Assuming I don't nuke the laser tower, what are the odds of a heavily-shielded but slowing-moving TS or TP making it to a station directly adjacent to a single laser tower, docking, leaving and surviving?
The mercenaries I am only encountering at Omnicron Lyrae. They appear to be in a group that also includes some Argon vessels, all 'Mercenary'. They don't appear to be aggressive; they haven't chased me, at least. I am concerned if I hang around long enough they'll attack, or once I start patrolling my important trade sectors my patrols will wipe them out and accidentally start a mini sector war.

Ah,I know what they are now.
They are your escorts in the first part of the Final Fury plot.
You should also see a ship named Exterminator.
When your fight rank etc is high enough the exterminator pilot will start the mission for you.
# Kha'ak plot (Operation Final Fury)
* Omicron Lyrae
* Fight 333 (~Veteran 42%), or Argon Patriot start
* Argon notoriety 10 (Federation Member 0%)
* Split notoriety -10 (Creature 0%)
Chances of Lasers knocking out you traders,or even you are extremely high.

Use hornets or tomahawks on the LT's and after firing the missiles from 20km, jump that ship out while you stay in the sector.
For the red mercs I think aside from the above just start the OFF plot and they will either reset or get destroyed during the first mission especially if you don't bother to help much

red LTs
If there are red LTs left when you have gain a lot of rank with a race, then you have to kill them. If you leave them, they will cause trouble, usually at the worst possible time.
Sometimes I tried missiles, but the LT was fast enough, it just blew up my missiles, even a whole barrage of them. Some suggested getting the LT to target you in one direction, and launch the missiles from another direction, so they couldn't turn fast enough to get them.
Now I just ram them with an M6 or heavier. Even though they are red, it seems like there is less rep loss. I'm not positive on that one. In any case, you need to take them out and that works fine.
The red Mercenaries turn blue when you reach top rank with the race. I was looking forward to blowing them up in the PP start, when I had the Hype reward. When I came for them, they turned blue. They cannot be capped, no matter how times you try. Actually, to be exactly accurate, they can bail in some circumstances but you will still be unable to collect them and use them.

Bill in S.F., enjoying the game

M7M flail missiles work too. Just for the simple fact it cannot target all of them fast enough.
