Random News not worthy of own thread

While being cast as a very vile person, let's not forget, that this young man was and is deeply troubled. He did not have a very happy childhood and his Mother recently died.
We don't yet know, if like most of these mass shooters, he was on psychiatric medications, but whether or not that is the case in this instance, this disturbing aspect needs to be seriously looked into. One of the side-effects of anti-depressants, is increased tendency toward violent behavior.
Apparently, the shooter was involved in a local White Supremacist group. That is never a good sign.

It's not worthy of a thread as it happens so often and nothing changes, it's a couple of headlines and then back to business until the one next month. Americans don't give a crap about this, why would anyone else, if you can't get motivated by a school full of dead primary school kids, I doubt older peoples bodies are going to change much!

I hate Microsoft and I hate win 10, it has to be the worst OS they have made, at least to me as I only have problems with it. Earlier on last month they decided to update my computer, and they f****d it up, I had to do a roll back but today they decided once again I needed to update my version and it has taken me over 3 hours to get it back to working how I want it. You know probably as they have done it to everyone else, they deleted all my star shortcuts, a lot of mines are for expensive art packages and they replace them with a link to something called 3dpaint. What the hell is up with that, yeah we don't want you to use your hundreds of pounds worth of software, here use our cheap piece of crap instead. Not just that I had to re-install some of my software as they managed to mess them up, they even removed 2 of them from start altogether.
You can't mess around with peoples computers like that. I'm even sure they broke some kind of data protection law when they removed software and the links. I am just really pissed off at them right now, they really messed up my computer.

@ felter: I do feel for your plight. My own experience is not anywhere near so severe as I don't seem to lose anything nor have to rejig my start items, but it is still annoying.
Recently, every time there is a Win10 major update that requires a restart and I let it do that, on restart and log-in I get a continuous blank screen apart from a box saying "Personalised Settings (Not responding)". I then have a choice: do one or two more restarts and hope, or just wait sometimes up to 15 mins while Win10 eventually sorts itself out and gives me my desktop and browser back.
I think the issue is a time race between the normal Win10 user account start up (which needs the personalised settings to work), and all the extra stuff/checks/security that Win10 does on an update-related restart as opposed to a 'normal' restart or shut down. Apparently they cannot be done in parallel.
Note: this only started happening after the 'Creators' Update and I am not talking about the green screen 'preparing your system for updates' just before and after the restart - my issue is what happens (or rather doesn't) *after* log-in.
Anyway, I begrudge the time wasted in getting back to normal service after each major Win10 update.
Thinking about what you said about losing your personal set-ups, these issues could even be related!

A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.
I set my connection to "Metered" so that Windows doesn't automatically download updates.
I too get furious every time Microsoft intrudes on my life with an update forcing me to reboot and then to deal with who knows what consequences.
Just leave me the f... alone! I don't give Jack about the latest security or whatever update frankly. If it works, don't break it! Regarding security issues, I'm just fine manually updating every once in a while thank you very much.

I love Win10. Fantastic OS. Annoying privacy settings you have to **** with a bit at the start aside

MIND THE GAP
MIND THE GAP
After a year of pulling what little hair I have left sorting out my 1001 Win 10 issues it's finally operating to state that has my hair safe for the moment.
How? Since it really operates to NOBODIES satisfaction except Microsoft?
Simply it's chugging away quite happily inside a Virtual Machine set up within Linux. Not that I'd advise this route for anyone else. It takes a special motherboard, special and expensive software, special graphics card, audio card and so on with everything in and out over an in house LAN ran by a separate computer acting as server/firewall. In fact I've faked Win 10 into believing it's the boss. When it tosses a tantrum because it can't call home to report something to mommy Linux stops and tells me.
If you live in the US you've probably dealt with a few long lags in your internet as the disk drive spools on and on. That's updates of programs complying with a US law and tiny thumbnails of all your graphics and video files set out for review by other software looking for porn of the worst sort. This is pretty much SOP. When you have a good terabyte of textures for 3D in it's favorite JPG format it got ridiculous. Grab, save, send operation complete to windows, delete save, job done. When report-return for other "spy, bot, monitor" operations made up a goodly amount of idle operation I caged Win 10... No this really cranked up at Win 8 when I first caged the beast.
It took more and more work to get Win 10 to where I'm its boss and not vice-versa. For those who can't do this I'll say stay away from IE and FAR AWAY from Chrome. Firefox and others cut a good portion of this out. For forums like here I just use my smartphone. With what little I have on it who cares? And I program Android so I'm on it a good bit anyway while PC is busy spitting out queues of frames for 3D animation(s). Beats TV or twiddling my thumbs.
So I'm afraid that WIN 10 will in most cases never operate to everybody's liking. There is now literally hundreds of hoops it has to jump through with most programs acting as bots and reporting something back so the maker can have something to sell someone else. I actually read agreements, EULAs, so on. They get scary.
Good luck with Win 10 as you're primary OS. Especially those using it outside the US. You're in for losing a few hairs of you own.

All OS's can run perfectly bot person. The question is how well do they run the software put into them. I will have to give Win 10 one thing. It's fostered more Linux support into VM environments than when Win 7 shipped with the need for UEFI and no ability to multiboot into other drives that held Win XP. Win 10 is fine for programs made for Win 10. It has a built in distain for "Legacy Software".

When applying for ownership of an AR15 rifle, in the USA - why is the
purchaser NOT asked why he or she needs such a high-powered weapon,
obviously designed specifically to kill as many people as possible - as quickly
as possible..?
- and why are they NOT asked to provide details of the circumstances wherein
they could imagine ownership of such a weapon would be considered essential
- other than say, where the entire nation were under siege from a foreign
power..??
- there's gun ownership, and then there's ownership of a murderous piece of
machinery designed to reek havoc..
- surely, Shirley..??

I do not understand your last comment..Hank001 wrote:Help! I'm being chased by a bot!
We have a little bot that we wish we had not.
It pitches a point that goes all disjoint,
Until the bot gets got.

I suspect 95% of sales are 'because it's a 'cool' gun.BugMeister wrote:- there's gun ownership, and then there's ownership of a murderous piece of

Cute avatar I suppose. That and my other forums are almost all chasing bots tonight. I couldn't help myself.
Tapatalk has one sending out repeated notification emails that are 2 days old. 17 or so in the last hour. That's just one. Then another has one user talking to a bot using his user name pitching an exercise and diet.
It's been one of THOSE nights in forum land.
