X3 Albion Prelude - Merchant Tutorial Problem - No weapons firing.
Basically, I'm trying to go through the tutorial, but when I get to the weapons training, it tells me to press right-click or control, nothing happens when I press this. I have no mods installed, this is my first X game.
I would have posted this in the technical support forum, but apparently I can't for some reason.

The reason you can't post in Tech Support is because, as it says in the forum description, you need to register your game in order to do so. However in this case this is the right place for your post anyway.
At a guess you're doing the tutorial in a ship that doesn't have forward-firing guns. I believe the Boron start puts you in this situation. There are other possible explanations though, so don't be put off if this doesn't match your case.

Flight school is just there to help familiarize you with basic controls.
It is not a must do mission.
I would get in your TS and do some trading in order to get credits to upgrade both your ships.
When you have some lasers in your Discoverer ,then return to flight school ,if you wish, but you don't need to.

AP shares some files with TC, and is located in the addon subfolder of the TC install, so I expect you do have TC installed. Steam would've probably done it automatically when you bought and installed AP. Perhaps you just don't have a shortcut to it. Check in your Steam folder.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.
