Ships Faster in OOS?
Seems that when in OOS (Out Of Sector), ships seem to move and also dock/undock faster. Can you confirm this?
Bonus Question: When docked at a station, does the game consider the sector of the station I'm docked in as In Sector or Out Of Sector?
Thanks!

Collisions are disabled OOS, so ships can fly straight through things (such as the Aldrin planetoid). The net effect is faster travel. Sometimes much faster; in crowded sectors.

Just out of curiosity, are you basing the OOS while docked comment on anecdotal evidence, or has a dev/mod said this outright?
The only reason I'm asking - I stay docked when I let my game run, and I have yet to see any crashes from my UT/STs while docked. I can't tell you if they move faster (or through objects) while I'm docked.

while the ship is in a different environment, its not in a different sector. So the sector engine is still running in that sector, so that sector is still IS. If that wasn't the case, you would get a delay when docking and undocking as the sector engine will need to stop and start which is part of the load time when traveling between sectorsDrBullwinkle wrote:Right. Ships do not crash while you are docked because they are, technically, in a different "environment", which is geek-speak for "OOS".
It would be crazy -- and counter-productive -- for the game to process In-Sector "rules" for ships that are in a different environment than the player. Which is the case when the player is docked.
