Recon drones?
I just found some recon drones, it is convenient as i am mapping the universe but i wonder how long they last?

I think that what they were supposed to do is be launched, fly as drones to the designated target coordinates (within their energy range) and there convert into an Advanced Satellite just like any other one from there on.
Whether they do that as stated and how well, if at all, in vanilla X3AP is something that someone else will have to advise. They may have a fallback use in vanilla as just remote flying sensors while they last, or they might not work at all and just be a trade ware like in X3TC.
A reference thread that should throw more light on this. The opinion there is that they are just a fast remote sensor that lasts for 4-6 typical sectors.
