Random Alt/Tabbing and Music Overlap - Partial fix: Deleting unused TV Tuner folder.

Post by windscar232 » Sat, 13. Apr 13, 03:05

Since I have gone back to playing AP since it came out I have random alt/tabbing issues. The game will tab out after a while of playing it, or even leaving it paused for a while. I don't have this issue with any other games. I don't have anything pop up after it tabs. I don't think I have anything running on my computer that forces games to tab out. I tried downloading a sound driver that someone else mentioned on another thread that had this same issue, and it has not been resolved by doing that.

I then noticed the other day while playing that in some terren sectors that the battle music would play over the sector music, and that the ship computer also does not know how to pronounce Kuiper Belt on top of incorrectly pronouncing Uranus. I heard that this is the way they pronounce Uranus in the UK, but the Kuiper Belt is named after Gerard Kuiper, there shouldn't be different pronunciations of someone's last name. This is but two examples of this I have come across in the game. It has been a long time since I have played the game but I think there where other examples in some of the new terren or yaki ships names, and I don't even think terren is pronounced the same way as it is in other media. It seems like the ships computer in game needs hooked on phonics.

For the Alt/Tab issue, have a browse of this thread for a bit more info.

Any more info on music overlapping would be useful. You do have some MainConcept codecs that might be delaying or confusing the normal sequence of events for sound.

As to in-game pronunciation, this is a German-origin game and that side of gameplay and immersion is hardly a Tech Sp issue.

I couldn't find a solution on these other threads, it just has you saying that there is the same problems in other threads and seems like a run around. There seems to be no real solutions where you said there was other threads regarding this issue in those other threads.

It just happened after I downloaded a sound driver in one of those other threads where they said someone had this issue, so then I downloaded the same driver that they recommended to him. Then I was scouting out some of the terran sectors and noticed that I was starting to hear the sector music and the battle music at the same time. I haven't noticed this before, but I have kept fairly friendly with everyone gaining pirate faction just enough so they don't really bug my traders and then not enough to lose faction with the other races.

It seems like a programming issue to me. Do they play the English versions of the game in Germany where they pronounce things differently in English or something? A lot of the most popular American games are made in Korea and they make sure that the game use proper English, they even make the video game character's white instead of Asians so that people in other countries relate to the game better.

I think it takes from the immersion of the game to hear the computer say something with bad English, and then some of the Japanese names are not even pronounced the same as they are in anime cartoons and video games.

Hi again.

1. Agreed, I even said it happens since recently with another Steam game and so seems to be a possible Steam update issue rather than an Egosoft game issue.

2. Try undoing whatever you did just before it happened. Getting rid of MainConcept codecs could be recommended in any case.

3. I do not equate voice-acting (they are real people and not synthetic voices) with programming, sorry. Besides, even American English and UK English use different pronunciations! Either way, it is not going to be changed in X3 games now.

That is what I was thinking, but I don't know how to undo the steam update without losing my games. I haven't played the game in a long time so I have made many updates to my computer since I noticed this problem. I didn't have as much problems with it the other day and it wasn't as frequent as it was when I first had this concern. Intermittent problems are the hardest to solve, and it does seem strange since there shouldn't be anything that makes your game tab out other than hitting alt tab.
Alan Phipps wrote: 2. Try undoing whatever you did just before it happened. Getting rid of MainConcept codecs could be recommended in any case.
What is MainConcept codecs, and how do you get rid of it?

It is just something that I am not sure if Egosoft was fully aware of. I think if they are going to translate the game into other languages then they should put forth the effort to have the correct translations. It is not like I am trying to say everyone everywhere should talk the same way as they do in America, it is just it seems strange when they use the same words with different pronunciations that is in other media.

It does seem a bit late since the game has already been out for a while. It just sounds like broken English when there are so many different words in the game that are pronounced differently. If they had an accent in the game that would be different, but the different pronunciations are not even done with a different English accent.

Maybe with Rebirth they could have different English versions. I wonder if Rebirth is going to be a MMO since they are getting rid of the SETA, I don't see how they could have SETA in a multiplayer game. It would seem to make sense then to get rid of it for a multiplayer game. It is something that I would like to gain more popularity in the states without having to try to log on to overseas servers.

Trying to find my CD-Key just to try and find technical support in itself was a headache. In most games they just have you use it when you first install the game, it is hard to lose it when you just opened the game. Then you have to use it to create an account. That account will then be the same account you use to login to forums. That way you don't have to go back trying to find it and having to try and dig it up later just when you have problems. Something else I think would be a good idea, when new multiplayer games first come out and they have issues on launch, the forums themselves have been known to crash from everyone logging onto them at the same time.

Hi, MainConcept is usually an unnecessary set of codecs loaded by some Adobe applications, by Magix, or by various codec packs such as k-lite or CCCP etc. The best way to consistently remove them is to uninstall the application or codec pack that installed them. Doing so even temporarily can confirm if they are the real issue.

Doing so rarely causes problems elsewhere unless you use the codecs for a specific purpose such as playing a particular or uncommon sound format. That then may lead to having to make a choice between that sound format and the X games if the codecs prove to be the issue. Read the Common Problems Sticky above on this forum to find out more about codecs.

I am afraid that your other game immersion comments are really more appropriate in the X-Universe forum as they are not Tech Sp issues. You should also state any related concerns that you may have for X-Rebirth in that game's own forum rather than here.

Well then how do I get into contact with tech support? I have already uninstalled my game and installed it again and had the same issue. I don't think it would be much help to just uninstall whatever on my computer.

and if you ever goto the uk you will find that people will also be pronouncing words completly different from in America. Even different parts of the country has completly different pronunciations for the same words.

Also i should point out, that translations have nothing to do with pronunciation

@ windscar232: re your last post, I have no idea what tech issue you are talking about. In your quote from me there, I was talking about voice-actors' pronunciations which obviously will not change with a game reinstall and will not be addressed now in X3.

I actually dated a girl in college that was from the UK, but she didn't have an accent and pronounced everything the same since she lived in America most of her life.

I think it does make a difference, because you would expect to hear someone with an accent pronounce things differently. If they pronounced things the same way without their accent (like the American ship computer), then it just sounds like they are pronouncing it wrong.

IDK, if the UK version has a different accent or not, but I am assuming it does. If they are going to have different voice's in the game anyways, then it would only seem natural to pronounce things the way they are pronounced in different territories.

If there was a character in game that had a UK accent, then it would only seem natural for him to pronounce things the way they are pronounced in the UK, but without an accent it just sounds like they don't know how to pronounce the words correctly.

I wasn't sure what you where talking about, so that is why I asked. Did you mean I should just uninstall adobe? I have had a lot of updates from them but them sometimes I use it to view word documents online, so I didn't really want to get rid of it. I think adobe may do more than just allow you to view online documents, especially since you seem to think it can be affecting my game.

I think I have had crash issues before on a different computer and tried this, but I think it may have contributed to my computer have problems that then made me have to install windows again. I would end up having serious computer problems after playing the game for a long time with it doing that. I don't know what else may have caused it, I didn't have any problems with that computer before that time. I think the computer I got now can handle it better so instead it just tabs out of the game with no error message.

I would just like to know where I could find a better solution to the problem. It says your a mod but I don't know if that means that you are really a tech support specialist. I don't want to end up doing something that could be harmful to my computer from just anybody.

Adobe Reader is just fine and does not install MainConcept codecs; that only seems to be the case for some deeper-reaching Adobe and Magix multimedia products. You need to find out where the MainConcept codecs are coming from on your computer as I cannot search it for you - you may find that out by searching for them and seeing what application folders they are found in.

Otherwise, if they are just in the general drivers/codecs/dlls folders then they are more likely to be from an unnecessary codec pack that you can remove, or you could try temporarily renaming them manually to something else you can remember and then try the game before running any applications that might reinstall them.

As to what Moderators are, they are just X-gamers whom Egosoft have asked to help police or advise on the forums on the basis of their past posting history. No I am not a techie or developer but I know what has caused problems and what actions have helped for others in the past.

I really do not want to discuss in-game pronunciation any more here. This is not the place.

I did a search on my computer and I didn't find any folders named MainConcept.

Okay, I thought they might have been design "flu's" like they found in the Buster and the Nova, when they made the Elite.

Not MainConcept folders, but MainConcept files named such as these:

mceesmpeg.ax
msmpeg2enc.dll
mpegin.dll
mpeg2in.dll

(The codec file names are usually found from the MainConcept codec listings in your DxDiag.)

I found the file msmpeg2enc.dll in my system32 from microsoft. Can I delete this file and not have computer problems from there?

Rename it to something like 'msmpeg2enc.bak'. Then do similar renaming for mceesmpeg.ax which is definitely on your system because it appears in your DxDiag. Make sure you do this for all copies of those files on your system and make a note of all the locations (make sure that hidden files are also being searched and reported).

Now without starting any multimedia or music/film applications, try the game and see if your issues are any better. If not then see if those files have been reinstalled as originally named anywhere you have renamed them. If not then you can rename them back to original names if you want as they are not the cause of your issues this time.

Let us now how it goes. Good luck.

It pops up a window named File Access Denied, that says I need permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this file.

Then I didn't find the other file you mentioned in my search. NVM, I did search in computer and found it. I changed it will let you know, may wait a while it takes a while for the game to mess up sometimes.

I think just changing that second file you mentioned fixed the ship computers stuttering problem when I go through gates.

I think it may have been the problem haven't had it tab out on me yet, but it is completely random sometimes happens when I first log on or sometimes after a long time.

Just a relief getting that fixed, forgot to mention that problem. I have had that problem on my other computer so I started to think it was normal.

After changing the file name I noticed that the TL ships wouldn't give me the option to hire them to transport so then I changed it back. I then loaded up my game and then saved it and then reloaded my new save in order to get that option back. I hear it is not a good idea to screw with system 32 files.
