Ice harvesting

Post by Teronredoran » Sat, 1. Jun 13, 21:42

So far I've searched about 4-5 different sectors in Terran space and haven't found any ice asteroids (AP, unmodded beyond bonus pack). However, I do have the ability to purchase Ice harvesting factories, so before I buy one I'd like to know if they work on any asteroid, or if I just haven't had any luck yet.

There are ice asteroids but they are few and far between, you may have to extend your search beyond Terran space.

If the production code is like other mineral mineral mines, you'll get a residual amount of ice production.
But not enough to make it really worth while spending that cash and wasting a good 'roid.

Mines placed on low yield 'roids do make good extra storage for a complex though.

Only 11 sectors have asteroids that have ice- Asteroid belt has the highest yield by far :D

One of the previously unknown sector beyond Unholy Descent has a high yield Ice 'roid (or did in TC). You could dispense with the mine and use a mobile mining fleet, with CLS handlers, and get a much higher final output that you would with a mine ;)

This would be a waste as small rocks don't respawn in AP, did this to stop the exploit of nividium mining iirc.

Thing with Nvidium mining was that you couldn't instruct your freighters to mine it directly, you had to break up the asteroids into their smallest chunks yourself and have them collect the rocks. Very tedious and time-consuming.

This is still true, but in TC you only had to break up a few (one would do), & then the infinitite respawn meant you could have as many ships as you wanted mining that small collection of rocks forever (as long the playership was never back in that sector).

There is one with very high yield (70+) in Saturn 3. Don't break any of those roids, you will need them for Terran complexes.

In TC, there's a low-yield (high single digit?) Ice rock in Treasure Chest next to Omicron Lyrae, which is barely worth building a mine on. At least you wouldn't need to supply it with E-Cells very often...

The highest yield ice asteroid is in Asteroid Belt (where else?) 133!
