getting PBC from Lasertowers...(AP)

according to X3wiki, you can get a PBC from a laser tower by destroying it before it's 10 minute setup timer expires. i tried this 10 times and got nothing. is there a certain weapon i need to use to destroy it?

No but there's a better way to do it. Have a freight drone "collect" the weapon from the LT. This is a guaranteed way to get the weapon. You can then pick up the deployed LT and drop it again for infinite PBCs. This may feel like cheating, but considering there's no other way to get it... Just don't use it for gobs of money by selling them off to EQ docks, only for your ships.

i thought i had tried that. maybe i didn't think to "command" the drone to "collect" it. we'll see. thanks for the info.

It works with the freight drone. I got some for a cerberus that way

If you use freight drones it's best to do this OOS as the freight drone doesn't always dock after picking up the PBC. If you then fly over the drone as you would normally to pick it up you lose the PBC that it was carrying.

Hmmm... Are you sure? I used the freight drone trick to get some PBCs for my Astraeus Hauler and I didn't lose the PBC when I picked the drone up by flying over it.

Yeah, it's happened to me a couple of times, not sure why. In any case the process is overall faster OOS as drones dock instantly.

tried again. this time it worked. before, i ejected the drone but didn't command it to retrieve the weapon.

Tried this several times but cannot find the "collect " command for the drone. It has a fetch command but it does nothing.

I.ve given it a transporter device but still no joy it flies to the LT then back to me. Any suggestions ?.

Q:
1. does the LT have to be home based to a station.

2. do you have to let the full ten minutes elapse.

IF none of these questions are relevant could some one tell me how they managed it on a step by step basis.

No to both - you might actually not be able to get the laser after the 10 minutes, since it will be equipped. If it has, just pick up the lasertower and drop it again.

Use your ship's trade command "Transfer freight via drones" command to do the transfer.

There's only 3 ships that can mount them, Carrack, Cerberus and Astraeus Hauler. The Carrack can mount 4 each side turret, where as the other two can only mount two on side turrets.

Tried this and love it.

One thing. It will "work" if player ship in IS, but inconstantly. For example, if I drop three towers, then jump out, have my TL drop 3 freight drones and have each one collect freight (the laser) from the tower, I get 3 lasers. If I am in sector, I get 1, sometimes 2, as a result of the exact same action.

I can vouch for the Carrack, which is my current ship ... and includes a load out of 8 PBC's. It really, really is er... piratey matey ... anyhow I luv my ship, and for now it is my fave due to those PBC's

Yes, I've found it can be a bit hit and miss IS, that is why I go OOS as you don't get that annoying problem as the drones dock instantly.

I don't rate the Carrack as a good player ship, prefer the Astraeus. But the Carrack does make an excellent training ship for my marines.

I think the Carrack does a better job at abusing the PBCs simply because it can mount more. While the Carrack seems worse Stat wise in basically everything else this is not the case when it is controlled by the player, because it is a pretty small and manuverable ship it is really easy to dodge Capital Ship fire and the PBCs kill pretty much everything below an opposing M7 in a heart beat. However it is definitelly not the best Ship to kill bigger things like M2 or M1 especially if they got escorts it is possible to do it thanks to the PBCs long range that allows you to stay out of reach for their guns, but it takes long and for jobs like this i would much rather use something like a Tiger. Opposing M7s aren't much of a problem but you obviously need to be a little careful if they got IBLs.

Overall it is a fun ship to fly, but thats it. There are obivously a lot better choices to fly for an M7 like the Tiger/Panther/Shrike but if you want to have fun using the PBCs that is the Ship to do it with.

did not notice any mention here that Mammoths can also mount 2x2 PBC's (L&R).

and yep I'm just flying the Carrack for fun, as it is very good for manoeuvring etc. I didn't use it much at all in TC, so am now enjoying it in AP. I am able to single-handed take on Q's and all their entourage with it so that's what I do in between tiresome ta admin and mission tasks. I tend to cycle through different ship preferences. For a long time the kestrel was my favourite ship (for speeeeeed). So now its the Carrack. Only 2GJ of shields, slow as an old Centaur I had back in Reunion, not the biggest cargo hold, but .... EIGHT Plasma Beam Cannons. im gunna ride this bike for a while yet ... plus ... I like its looks too
