Enemy marines eject during boarding

It's been happening consistently. Just about every time I board a ship, when they reach the computer core, a bunch of marines appear in spacesuits near the enemy ship. The game lets me collect those marines and they work for me normally.

Is it normal that marines get booted out instead of killed?

Wise behavior for a suddenly unemployed mercenary...just don't ask for a reference from their previous employer.
