Yaki Akuma
Looking at the Yaki Akuma I just have to wonder. Why is it the most expensive ship in the game?
Also how does this compare to the brigantine?

I think it's due to lore. The Yaki have essentially built every ship they have from scratch due to having limited legacy hardware to go off; combine this with their low production capability compared to the other races...
Pirate ships are mostly made from "Stolen or Salvaged Ship parts", their relatively low production capability is somewhat off-set.
Xenon ships, on the other hand, have what seem to be the cheapest ships in the game (Gleaned from their relatively low HQ production cost; since you can't actually buy them without mods).

As I recall, the Akuma does indeed have excellent point defense, allowing it to field both flak and Ion Disruptors in its antifighter mounts, allowing for the 'ionized flak' combo, which uses the CFlak clusters to extend the range of the disruptors, making you more or less immune to missiles and putting constant damage on fighters. The Akuma is also nice and thin, making it good for use with the strafe drive.
Allergic to work.

I tend to buy the Yaki fighters, transports, Destroyer amd Carrier as they are good for money.
A typical Fleet action for me to control in system, is Ten, maybe fourteen ships, plus fighters.
I have a Hoshi in a major threat area, with two M7s and accompanying Escorts.
Despite the lower levels of shielding, both the Hoshi carrier and Akuma destroyer do work well, but I always escort them with fighters and M7s.
Their weaponry does make them stand out, and it is worth buying these ships.
But I will attack with heavier units, dropping off fighters from the carrier to escort the heavies, and if it gets too much fire, jump out the carrier if it gets into trouble.
I prefer a Fleet composed of different races ships, as each has abilities that support the others.
I have lost more than one Akuma, and I do not reload, as a lost ship is a lost ship.

Ha! I just managed to cap one last night...
I see it as pretty mediocre in all ways, and tied worst shielding in M2s, not good for a ship of the line!
Nice trophy, got it patrolling a remote mining colony of mine, just to tie up raiders until a proper killing machine can get there.... 115m/s Pteranodon with 16 PALC!

Cap it, I wouldn't waste your credits on buying one. The shields are weak, but it's got a decent amount of hard points, and can chew through fighters if you load it up with flak weaponry. The first couple that I capped I kept and now use for station defense. Otherwise, I sell them. They bring in a tidy sum.

Doesn't it have the capability to use boarding pods? (Not sure whether that's just in my modded game or not )

Brigantine is better overall. In fact Brigantine is overall one of the best M2's there are. Looks awesome too.thelastslaith wrote:Looking at the Yaki Akuma I just have to wonder. Why is it the most expensive ship in the game?

Nope... Not even in MY heavily modded game.InFlamesForEver wrote:Doesn't it have the capability to use boarding pods? (Not sure whether that's just in my modded game or not )
The Brigantine may be better in the player's hands (due to it being relatively thin, allowing better use of strafe), but in the hands of the AI, it'll be toast due to the weak shields.NUKLEAR-SLUG wrote:Brigantine is better overall. In my current game, I'm planning on eventually getting an Akuma or 2 for my steadily growing fleet, the core of which seems to be made up of Yaki ships (couple Ryus, a Senshi, a Kariudo*, and a Shuri* as my flagship). So far, the only M2 I've got is a Boreas I sort of "borrowed" out of the war zone in AP.
* = Note: using Cadius ship pack, which (among other things) replaces the ship models for the "Argon look-alike" Yaki capital ships, and adds the Kariudo and Shuri to the Yaki shipyard.

Re: Yaki Akuma
Must be XRM that adds it then. That mod adds so much and I haven't played vanilla in so long that I never know what was added by it or was already in vanilla.Baratheon79 wrote:Nope... I don't mind the Akuma it cuts through other capital ships, has some speed and is manuverable enough. Probably better in the players hands with another m2 to switch to if needed.
I'll speculate the price also has to do with not needing much race rep to get one. Buying aircraft carriers and destroyers on the black market is expensive.

I'm not after the biggest and the best warships, just units to play a role in the game, and then be ready to play another role as a unit in a Naval Battlegroup.
It's fun, and it's challenging. and like a good game of chess, takes a whiles.
It will always be similar to real life :
What do we want, what can we afford.
Something like real navies are adjusting to since the end of the Cold War.
It's another option to indulge in...

The Akuma is the ideal first destroyer for those who play pirate. If you can dock at the Yaki shipyard, you can buy one. No other rep required. So you can pillage all the freighters and other ships you want, and once you get enough money from all that pillaging to buy an Akuma, it can be yours, no questions asked. If you're a pirate, you can't do that with any of the other races you've pillaged.
