scripts ? mods ? plugins ?

Hello everyone,
I am a noob. That said being in the learning curve ( which is steep ) I slowly muddle through the game and read your helpfull postings. What I would dearly like to see are step-by-step instructions for installing and or activating said scripts, mods, and plugins.
For now it's back to trading and reading the posts on this forum.

Hope you can help.
