Launching Missiles

Post by lexraider » Sun, 18. May 14, 11:59

Is it possible to command my M2 to launch missiles against enemy ships whilst I'm flying my M6?

Which X game? You can increase the ship's missile use probability percentage to increase the chance of it launching a missile rather than using guns in combat. OOS that is probably bad news though as the ship launches only one missile per combat round instead of using all its weighted total gun damage for that round. The missile type installed matters as well. That said, combat improvements in X3AP updates might have changed some of that behaviour ...

Obviously not for M2, but if you can afford using M7/M8 ships, there is a special command to launch volleys of their rockets...

In sector, an M2 has "no weapons" but the missiles; no fixed hardpoints. Its turrets operate independently. High missile use probability allows thus the M2 fire missiles (when the fly routine wishes) in addition to what its turrets do. In sector.

As said, OOS is a different kettle of fish.

On X2--X3AP you can bind the M2 to a "monitor", activate the monitor, and then fly that ship "remotely" (while in sector).

X3R Bonuspack's Group Management Hotkeys script has a hotkey that can make any ship to explicitly launch missiles.

X2 Bonuspack's Hired Gunnery Crews script had a Missile Assault command.
Bonuspack AEGIS ReadMe wrote:Select Mosquito or Wasp

Mosquito Missile:
Scans for and targets every enemy ship within 42km. A single Mosquito missile will be launched at each target. The intention with this is to "issue challenge" to enemy ships. When attacked, enemy ships tend to come to you. This is an effective way of clearing a sphere 43km in radius around your ship.

NOTE: Capital ships tend to have turrets set on missile defense. You can be virtually assured that no single mosquito missile will hit an enemy capital ship.

Wasp Missile
When the Wasp missile is selected, all light (M5) fighters within 22km will be scanned for and targeted. If it is a Khaak M5, then a single Wasp missile will be fired at it. If it is any other M5, a pair of Wasps will be fired. An effective way of destroying almost an entire Khaak cluster at long range.
The X3TC/AP have Flails for same, but nevertheless in AEGIS I sense "the good old days, long gone". :x2:

Is there a specific M2 only missile you need launched? Because if not, a TM with four fighters mounting only missiles can make an effective replacement for most missiles you'd launch. Plug the fighters into a wing and when you need missiles, just order that wing to attack.

@ jlehtone: "In sector, an M2 has "no weapons" but the missiles; no fixed hardpoints." We have one with a main frontal battery now in X3AP, the Pteranodon. I know what you mean though. :)
