Problem Turning Over Control of "L" in main quest

Post by jkvantuyl » Sat, 5. Jul 14, 05:53

I'm running in to a problem that I haven't encountered before...

I'm finishing the 'Deliver a Xenon L to the Beryl Research Station' quest, and while I'm sitting in my ship and having the L autopilot and dock at the Beryl Research station, the message that normally comes up asking if I wish to turn over control of my ship to the station, instead comes up blank...

In fact, it doesn't really say anything - it says:

Message from: Unknown [Date & Time]

'then a box with the OK button on the bottom.

I've been able to complete this quest in the past, but now I'm at a loss... any thoughts?

Thanks.
Jon

Almost certainly a gamefile corruption, bad installation/update or bad modification. Have you verified the Steam gamefile caches for TC and AP separately? Is your game vanilla or modded?

Please see the Announcement on this forum about the information needed for using Tech Sp.

Thanks Alan - let me run through the questions in the sticky post you mentioned. :-)

Also, I ran through the Steam file verification for both AP and TC, and under AP it did find 1 file that was corrupt, which it then redownloaded and replaced. After having done that, I started the game up again and tried docking the L to turn it over, and got the same 'blank' message as before.

- Source, game, version and language (e.g. Steam X3AP 2.5.2 English or DVD Gold Edition X3TC 3.2b English, etc).

I have the X-Superbox purchased through Steam. Specifically, I'm having this issue while playing X3AP English.

- Whether or not your game is modified using any third party scripts or mods.

I made a copy of the Steam X3AP game folder, and downloaded Litcubes universe and installed it to this copied X3AP folder so that I could give that a try. The error I am running in to is when I play through the original Steam installation of the game though. Since doing this, though, I have deleted all copies of TC and AP on my computer and am currently redownloading TC and AP to do a fresh installation and see if that helps.

- Where appropriate, type of game played (game start, custom game etc.)

I'm playing the Vanilla game using the Argon game-start that puts you in the Argon-Terran war front at the start.

- Exact nature of the problem, where and when it occurs and what you were doing at the time.

When remotely docking an 'L' at the Beryll Research Station, instead of getting a message that asks me if I want to turn over control of the L, I get a blank message from 'Unknown' with only the option to click 'Ok'. When I click 'Ok', the game sends another message that is blank from 'Unknown'.

- Any possibly relevant changes you have made to your game, system, or software before the issue occurred.

When I initially started the saved game I'm working from, I started it up under a prior update release. Since then, I believe the game was updated once, and has been saved a couple of times since this new release.

- Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages (see these FAQs) and even links to screenshots.

I have not experienced any other issues other than the one above.

- Your system specifications in the form of a DxDiag report (see this FAQ for details how).

Here's the first few chunks of the DxDiag report... let me know if you need the whole thing. :-)

OK the whole DxDiag is really needed but from the bit you gave I can see that your graphics driver is out of date (AMD have stopped supporting that card but there is Catalyst 13.9 from 2013 here). I suspect there may be other things in the full DxDiag that could be updated.

When reinstalling, I strongly recommend that you use all the reinstalling advice from towards the end of this Sticky. Mods leave remnants if you don't be this thorough.

Unfortunately some corruptions and problems from mod vestiges can hang around in your prior saves and any made from them even after the gamefiles are cleaned. That might apply here.

Good luck anyway.
