[X3TC] What happens to the ship after a 'Deliver Ship' mission?

Post by IanFitzJo » Wed, 9. Jul 14, 21:05

If I deliver a ship as part of a Deliver Ship to Station mission, does it just disappear or does it become an NPC ship and start contributing to the global economy?

One way I measure the health of the global economy is by the number of freighters (and other) ships flying around. The more ships there are, I figure, the more booming the economy. When control of the delivered ship is surrendered, it jumps away. Where does it go? Into the Deleted Items folder or does it start doing business?

If you give it a unique name, you will see it undock and jump out of sector. You may see it again,if you remember the name...at least I read that in earlier versions of X. But not tested it beyond seeing it jump out.

If its an M7 or an M7M I have to deliver to a standard station where it cant dock it tends to get stolen by some of my less scrupulous employees using company boarding pod's (All without my knowledge of course).

Similar to TTD's experience, I've seen them flying around the universe. But I've also seen them just disappear once they leave the station and fly through a gate. It's probably the GoD engine's way of getting rid of excess ships. GoD does try to keep a relatively fixed number of NPC ships flying at any one time.

I don't think that GoD has any power over ships. Jobs does.

Jobs has a list. List might say: 42 is a good number of Energy Traders. Jobs has created that many Free Trader ships running the "Free Trader" command with Ecells in their shopping list and "Energy Trader" in their name. If any of them gets killed, then the jobs engine will respawn a replacement (after some delay). There is no decisions to make, just keep track of the ship count. (My favourite job class is naturally the Xenon; the more the merrier.)

Now the ship that you did deliver. It could be a M5. Those don't trade (AFAIK). Some trade job (like M3 High Tech Trader) might have M5 escorts, but do you expect the system to attach the new M5 to existing job? Not likely. It is more likely that the mission simply starts some "wander around" command on the ship. The mission could treat Freighters differently, but which job to start? Decisions, decisions, and as I said I don't think GoD is involved.

The following is more S&M, for which there is a separate Forum:

Ship commands are scripts. If you do enable the Script Editor, you can see what command an NPC ship is running. Then you would delve into reading what that script actually does.

However, there is the Mission Director too; the engine that runs the missions. Mission code has different language. Mission can have an action like "Remove ship Y after delay of random(X) minutes". To be sure, you would have to read the code of the Deliver Ship mission.

But I thought 'Job' worked for 'GoD'. Isn't that how he got his name?

Energy traders don't just trade energy you know... I've seen sometimes half a dozen sitting at my weed and booze complexes. :P

Hey, maybe that's why AI energy trading is so far behind... They're off somewhere getting loaded.
Anyone else notice how the Dovakiin & Dragons in Skyrim kinda sorta resemble the Immortals from Highlander? Every time a dragon dies I hear, "There can be only one."

If you scan them, they'll often reveal themselves as pirate smugglers. 'Energy trader' is their cover. Can't go flying around protected space calling themselves 'rum runners', now can they?

If the ship can dock at the station you got the mission from, you 'll see it undocking and flying away after a while.
The ship does not belong to any race.
The best missions for me are those that Shaun mentioned, that the ship can't dock at the station, usually M7s.
They just idle near the station, without a race tag, no marines inside to defend them, but the pilot is the npc that gave you the mission.
During the boarding op they just lay still.
The tricky part is to avoid the Police afterwards.
Those missions are easy profitssss and i never let the ship join the collective of the global economy :p
