[X3:AP] Do Universe Laser Towers help Rep?

Hey guys I'm trying to get more rep in with Argon, would setting up some laser towers at a gate that pirates come though help improve my rep with them?

LTs can do a lot of things very well but you have to kill a ship with your personal ship to gain rep. You will lose rep with the pirates and when it gets very low they will attack you everywhere in the universe.
