X3ap Readtext Errors - resolved by clean reinstall

Post by bobt » Sun, 22. Feb 15, 14:57

I am now getting readtext30-69xxxx or readtext31-69yyyyy errors when trying to communicate with ships or stations . Anyone know what could cause this?

I recently installed the bonus pack. from steam.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Almost certainly a game installation or update problem. Use the Steam verify gamefiles cache tool on both X3TC and X3AP separately to start with.

I assume you have not installed any 3rd party mods or scripts prior to installing the Bonus Pack (BP)? Also are you sure you installed the right BP in the right place? The X3TC and X3AP BPs are different and go in different locations.

REadtext errors

Post by bobt » Sun, 22. Feb 15, 15:37

No Mods only the bonuspacks that I know of. I downloaded the mods from steam for each of the products. I assume they went into the correct products. Is there a way to check?

The readtext30 and readtext31 messages probably refer to missing texts in the language files 30 and 31 (Greek and Dutch). It sounds to me as if your game and/or Bonus Packs have different, unavailable or undetermined language settings.

Make sure that all your Steam game and BP download and in-use language settings were to the same language of your choice. If there is no BP version in the language of your choice then set that BP version to English (44) to ensure that you always get some name rather than a readtext error.

The readtext30 and readtext31 messages probably refer to missing texts in the language files 30 and 31 (Greek and Dutch).
The first numbers of a readtext error, i.e. the ones before the hyphen, always refer to the page id. The numbers after the hyphen to the missing text id. The game will always look up these pages and text id in the files relevant for the currently selected game language. So in case of English in files with the ending 'L044.xml'.

Both Games are set to English according to the properties tab. and the Lang.dat file has a 44 in it for TC and in the add on directory in the X3TC directory which I think represents X3ap game, the Lang.dat file also contains a 44.

Where can I check the BP Language settings?

Sorry but I sent you on a wild goose chase. As X2 says, the 30 and 31 are pageIDs and not languageIDs.

It seems that in your game those two PageIDs in the English language textfile have some problems, possibly due to corruption.

It may also be worth checking if the issue happens with a new gamestart as well as with your saves as it is possible that the corruption is now stored in your saves and/or in the Virtual Store.

I personally would be tempted to do a complete and clean reinstall of the local files for just those two games as the verify is not picking up the problem and as X3AP also uses the X3TC base gamefiles. Just delete local content for those two games *only* and then verify or reinstall them to get them redownloaded from Steam - *do not* delete or uninstall the Steam Client or you may lose your whole Steam games library! See towards the end of this Sticky for further advice on a clean reinstall process.

Good luck.

tried a new game start to no avail same issue. I am deleting the local game files for those two games and will let you know.

After performing deletion of local content
New Game Start did not have the readtext errors

Loading a previous save did

Ah, so the issue was indeed gamefile corruption and unfortunately that is now embedded in your previous saves. As some consolation, a new gamestart using the knowledge you have from previous play should advance pretty quickly.
