Boarding in AP ??
In TC I could cap the CW big ships quite easily. A Boreas, a Sirokos, 2 overcharged blasts, transfer to the Siro, launch pods at handshake distance, 10 marines 4 x 100, $50 Mil, perhaps lose a level of Race Rank in two boardings. Apology accepted by escort easily. It took about as long to do it as it did to write it now.
Now all the big targets have Mosquito Defense, even the Terrans. You lose 3 or 4 ranks for one boarding. Apology is NOT accepted easily if at all. I thought the Acino might help with its firepower in close taking care of those last points to allow boardings. But it's light shields keep it from working in close, at least with the big ones. Now boarding doesn't look like an easy way to raise $.
Can someone tell me how they have used the Acino successfully for boarding operations? Does standard boarding still work, with Cobra at 10km, Hammer and Flails? Does the Mosquito Defense make it harder?
Thanks!

Good. Goverments shouldn't accept the theft of a capital ship that easely.
Why are you even at close range with a missle frigate though? Use Hammers drop the shields, and calculate based on recharge rate how many you need to keep down. Use Flails to cover the boarding pods.
Scan the target to see if it even HAS mousquitos
Civilian TLs are still easy as pie

I blew up an ATF Tyr with HP in Pluto and then boarded the one that spawned in Moon Sector with 10 marines, 4 x 100. The ATF and Terran rep dropped 4 levels, just like the CW races. I got a $95 Mil prize that I'll keep. I could sell it for $60 Mil. But boarding more would not be smart with rep that low.
I use a two ship boarding method with the Megalodon and Sirokos. I launch pods from handshake distance. A bump even lowers the target's shields those last points. Two pods make it to the ship okay. In AP, the ship turns red quickly. In TC, the target turned red when the marines entered, allowing the Siro to do an Unfocused Jump, and leaving the escort still blue. In AP, the escort is red. There is a SY in Moon Sector. I docked the Tyr in the SY after boarding it, and a while later the escort turned blue on its own. None of them would accept an apology.
Boarding is tougher in AP, definitely. It can be done, but each boarding will require a number of missions to rebuild rep. In TC the rep for ATF did not drop at all, and wasn't linked to Terran Rep. Oh, well.
Terran and ATF ships have Mosquito defense, which they didn't in TC. This makes it harder but not impossible.
Even capping a civilian TL costs 3 levels of rep, and earns about $20 Mil.

yea latest patches made act of boarding have real consequences as it is really an act of piracy on players part (except with xenon), also ATF is directly linked to Terran rep. so no more free lunch Valhalla. Makes training your marines fighting stars a lot trickier too.
a suggestion re mosquito missile defence; scan target to see cargo units of m.missiles. and keep spamming the target with your own mosquitos until they have no more, so at least one less hazard for your boarding pods, and your own shield busting missiles.
nowadays for boarding ops in AP I am addicted to my Pirate Carrack loaded with 8 plasma beam cannon on L / R turrets to quickly get target shields down, and burning out internal defence systems, followed by a ton of fighter drones to keep it busy as pods are launched.

First, 10 Marines 4 x 100 can take any ship in TC, except Xenon. I haven't verified that for the new ships in AP, but I just took a Tyr in AP.
Next, I found in TC that two boarding pods could make it to the hull of a blue target but three usually could not. I found this to happen even when I launched 40 m from a blue target. Occasionally a third one would make it; usually it wouldn't. It seems like trouble is exponential, so three or more is just asking for it when fewer works.
I'm 6 game days into AP and finally have 10 marines 4 x 100. I could have gotten the necessary points for boarding with 15 or 20 sooner, but there would have been a lot of losses too. When I tried this in TC, it took longer to get to 4 x100 than just training up all the way before starting serious boarding. It's hard to wait but it's worth it when you finally get there. And there is extensive fight training anyway. I do use 15 and 20 marines for that with civilian TLs and the occasional Stolen Ship and Return Ship mission.
