My very own Xenon I!

Post by Ni Meleth Li » Thu, 3. Sep 15, 22:29

first off, i apologize for the new thread, and rather long one at that. I have no friends that play X3, and this is a big moment for me!
All ive captured is duke's zeus, and the occasional rented TL.

After spending 4 days training up 30 max level marines, and capturing who knows how many Duke's Zeus, i finally was ready to go after an I. I had already done a bit of hunting trying to locate where to find an I, and once i was ready, i jumped in my Cobra, loaded with 9 marines. About 70 hammers later, the escort was down(the heavy escorts anyway) and i jumped in my sirokos. with 21 marines. Before they connect, i send a pod loaded with 3 more marines from my Cobra. "Deck one, cleared!" i check and see 22 marines fighting! And then suddenly 18. i panic and launch another pod of 3. "Deck Two, clear!" still 18 marines, and then i hear that my boarding pod was shot down. i hadnt been firing flails ! T.T "Deck Three, clear!" still 18 marines, RNG must really love me. I'm considering reloading, but i let it go just to see what happens. A little longer and i hear , "Deck five, Clear!" my heart is racing, Still 18 marines! I've read that you need atleast 16 at the core or they will all fail. a few seconds later, a Xenon J shows up on my gravidar. 3 hammer barrages go flying towards him, and before they connect, i hear "transferring ship control!" i quickly jump in my aamon, and transfer over enough cells and a JJ to get it to safety. The i is mine! But at what cost?
i have lost more marines than i had hoped, but this ship is now mine! Off to the PHQ for RE ^.^
i have a save just after killing off the escorts. I'll reload it after work and see if i can't save a few more marines lives. they were expensive -.-

i'll attempt to record the retries tonight, and post it here if anyone would mind watching it and giving me some pointers? anything i'm doing wrong, etc.

but for now, i have these.

Well, let me be the first to congratulate you on a job well done. That's a worthy accomplishment. :D

Congratulations ! These feelings (after days of preparing and - as in my case - years of experience with this game) make TC or AP unique. You will revive your emotions when the first 'custom-built' I rolls out of your HQ :)

But you will need a lot of patience: RE and Rebuilding this ship takes > 7 IG days each ...

It could be worth to try to cap another one in the meantime ;)

Excellent work! I always love reading stories like this. I don't know anyone in RL either playing this game so it's nice to read stories like this.

Congrats!
I have this feeling every time i get the first Xenon ship in a playthrough, it never gets old.. nice adrenaline rush.

Small profile, sweet production time, and finally a good use for those heavy missile plexes.. xD
Also liking side turret coverage in the back. Last time i took it to upgrade in a UFJD swector it shot down 3 chasing Qs for me before they could do much damage - without turning the ship.

Congratulations on your new ship! I remember boarding my first Xenon I :) I think, in Vanilla AP, a Xenon I is hands down the hardest ship to aquire. (Except maybe the Ozias - if you plan to get it and still end the war AND save your argon/terran reputation....it IS possible :D )

But really, the I is an awesome ship. I actually wouldn't use firestorms, as they are to easy to shoot down. But load this monster with a thousand hornets or so and you just can literally flood away any target. Watching an enemy M2 go down to a huuuuge wave of hornets (let's say a few hundred in the air at the same time) and realizing that it really can't do ANYTHING to counter this kind of attack is extremly satisfying

If you're looking for a incredibly strong M2 and you can deal with not having any docking ports, the I is probably as far as vanilla ships will go for you. (I think it IS the strongest capital ship in the game, if you leave out the possibility of massive fighter wings launched from an M1 or, well, the still far overpowered M7M class) And the missile barrage for the back turret is just awesome (like I said, try hornet missiles for that!) The I is super hard to get (and afaik impossible to aquire without sacrificing at least some highly trained marines), but definitely worth it. Also, you probably love or hate the pink engines - I love them :D
