Plugin Manager: in modified mode, where are the vanilla saves stored?

X3TC not steam version

I just installed the plugin manager, changed to modified mode, then back to vanilla but all my saves have disappeared.

Where are the vanilla (and modified saves) stored as you switch between modes? If I can get my saves back then I can manually add them back into the save directory.
