X3AP - HUB - Disconnect Gates

I started as Terran Commander and having just taken over the hub have found 2 sets of gates connected.

Is it possible to disconnect one of these sets if I wish not to use the second and third sets of gates

I've never found a way to do this, after numerous playthroughs - I don't think it can be done.
