How to change steering for ships in TC?

Post by plynak » Fri, 22. Apr 16, 10:12

Hello. I aplogize if this has been asked before, but how can I increase the steering for ships in Terran Conflict? Or more precisely, how does the game make those three numbers (pitch, roll, turn) into one number? Lets say I want the Centaur to have steer 5.5 (as in Reunion) instead of 3.9, what to change?

Download doubleshadow's X3 Editor 2, point it to the folder where you have TC installed, open the TShips file and edit the pitch and yaw values (and roll, if you want to). The numbers tell you how many times the ship will rotate around the given axis per minute, so setting yaw (turn) to 5,5 will make the ship turn 5.5 full rotations in a minute.

Make the changes you want to, save the TShips file and start a new game, and you should be good to go.

PS: you might want to have a backup folder with an unmodified installation of the game, just in case something goes wrong.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am :D

Thanks, so I should not touch the pitch and roll ant all and only change the turn value?

I just used turn rate as an example, so you can of course change all three if you want to. Roll rate tend to be fairly decent though, so I've never bothered to change that. What I will recommend is to keep pitch and turn rate fairly equal, as it tend to get annoying if you got lightning fast turn rate and really slow pitch rate. Again, just an example.

Oh, ok, thanks. That is what I do not understand. How does the game make one number (3.9 for Centaur) from three numbers.

In this post you find some information on how the steering values are calculated. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be that clear, but maybe this helps you already to achieve what you want.

Thank you all for your help. I ended up changing pitch and turn values and as a result I have the number (or very close one) to what I wanted. For example I wanted steer 5 for a Heavy Centaur, so I used 2.5 and 2.5. I will make some testing, but it seems to be fine.
