I've spent HOURS trying to get this thing to work by now. I'm frustrated to the point of considering to uninstall the game and be done with it for good.
I'm using an Xbox-like gamepad. Two sticks, analogue triggers. It functions flawlessly within windows and any other game, yet, XTC just outright refuses to work with it. All of the buttons and the left stick work - and that's it.
I'm trying to put strafe controls on the right stick. I'm configuring "Joystick 2", X and Y axis to trafe, yet, nothing happens at all. Configuring it to roll doesn't do anything, either. Configuring said controls to "Joystick 1" works flawlessly.
Configuring them to the analogue triggers, the gamepads "Z axis", works as well - but needs to be inverted for rolling. If I push right, I expect to roll right, "clockwise" - yet I roll left, "counter-clockwise". There is no option to invert it.
Configuring the trigger axis to throttle gets me stuck at 23% of thrust constantly. Because, instead of being able to assign LT to be analogue decreasing of the throttle and RT to be analogue increasing of the throttle, it's handled as like, one lever - which sits at 50% if neither LT nor RT are pressed.
I don't know how actual Xbox controllers handle this, but I assume it's the same - LT and RT are bound to one single axis or treated as seperate buttons [which I can do as well, losing analogue input].
tl;dr:
- Why doesn't XTC recognize ANY input from right stick [Joystick 2]?
- Why can't I invert the Z axis anywhere? Any config files? Anything?
It's a Speedlink Torid Gamepad.

Unfortunately, X3TC didn't receive the Gamepad support update X3AP did, so you'll most-likely have to use a third-party program to workaround the problems with setting up your controller. I cannot really help you with this though, as I don't own a Gamepad, but there have been several discussions in the past about how to properly set up a controller with X3TC. This one, for example, explains the controller setup with a program called xpadder. Back then xpadder was still available as a free version. I don't think this is still the case, but you may be able to find an old free version somewhere. Alternatively, a software called pinnacle game profiler is mentioned sometimes, which has a free trial version and comes with a profile for X3TC.

I've already set up all of this with my already installed licensed Xpadder. Still means I've got no analugue controls, as I've basically just mapped the keystrokes to the gamepad.
In short: If I knew about this beforehand, I wouldn't have bought the game. the claims about the all-new controller support should probably have explicitly stated it only is available for 50% of the product [Terran War Package, TC + AP].
The very, very annoying process of installing and configuring a third party tool to allow me to play the game properly is a deal breaker to me. The only reason why I did it is, because I already had one installed for other, less stupid reasons. If I would have had to install Xpadder or any other free software first to do this games job, I'd have passed on it.
TC and AP are so similar, it really puzzles me as to why TC hasn't been patched with the controller update that's been applied to AP.
