The BBC are showing a miniseries of China Mieville's The City & the City at the moment, which I'm enjoying. Might be a bit of a challenge if you haven't read the book though.
A still more glorious dawn awaits, not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise, a morning filled with 400 billion suns - the rising of the Milky Way
I guess that's the end of Ash vs Evil Dead unless Netflix picks it up.

I adored the first movie. It was pure genius! Wonderful! Great! I even liked the second movie. But... they wore thin after that.burger1 wrote:Tremors 6 : A Cold Day in Hell is on US netflix. The Tremors tv series got cancelled even before the pilot aired on Syfy.
Bacon and Ward were perfect in that first movie. I'd miss them in any "series."
Movies like this seem to develop a fanbase very quickly, but it doesn't often translate well. People "love" the movie, but sometimes back away from plans to expand upon it or to make a television production. For instance, while it has had some dedicated fans, "Ash vs The Evil Dead" is being cancelled. I haven't seen many episodes, but it seems to have held true to the spirit of the original movies.
But... continuous satire runs thin, manufactured drama, purely for its irony value, doesn't often engage people if there's too much humor in it, and there comes a point when a something has to commit itself, fully, or it just turns "lukewarm."
A "Tremors" series would have to either go fully into the sitcom category, committing itself with only occasional bits of real drama and monster-ish shennanigans, or fully commit itself to adventure-horror, with only some comic-relief, here and there. The movie did a wonderful job of walking the thin line in-between drama and parody. A series would have to achieve that every week... A tough job that very few ever manage to pull off, if any.

Things watched recently (both on Netflix)
Fallet - odd comedy(? ) about a mismatched pair of detectives (yawn) - in Swedish and English - watched the first episode and decided it didn't work.
Happy! - Black comedy apparently based on a graphic novel. Better than expected but not child or teen friendly. (Too violent and sex.)

Google's main screen offering today is probably it's best to date.

I watched "Psychokinesis" last night, its a Korean film that's a mix of superhero movie, comedy and guy learns to be a better father (I dunno if there's a more official name for that genrea. . . . certainly plenty of films in it! )
I was interested in it because its the second film from the director whose first was "Train to Busan"
Conclusion: It was quite good, . . . . . but if you haven't seen it already, go watch Train to Busan instead.

The French tv series Missions is on BBC. It's 6.7/10 with 446 votes on imdb. I think only 4 episodes are up so far. UK region locked.
Babylon 5 has moved from go90.com to Amazon Prime US. They added Chuck also.
It looks like Starhunter Redux will air May 29, 2018 on the El Rey network (a paid network)

The Expanse has been renewed for season 4 at Amazon.

Does this mean that the first three seasons will actually become available on Amazon Prime in the UK, or are we still going to have the ridiculous situation where it's on Prime in the US but on Netflix over here? Meaning I would have to have both Amazon Prime and Netflix to see the whole thing?burger1 wrote:The Expanse has been renewed for season 4 at Amazon.

So, I gotta get Amazon, now?burger1 wrote:The Expanse has been renewed for season 4 at Amazon.

I too just started this.Redvers Ganderpoke wrote:Happy! - Black comedy apparently based on a graphic novel. Better than expected but not child or teen friendly. (Too violent and sex.)
Premise is that the imaginary friend (a blue cartoon unicorn) of a kidnapped girl seeks out the protagonist (a drug addled former superstar cop turned hitman) to convince him to rescue the girl.
Something different to be sure.
I'm enjoying it so far, the setting, characters and violence are all hugely / comically overblown and combined with the utterly ridiculous premise makes it all rather fun / amusing. It reminds me a little of the Jason Statham movie Crank stylewise.
But yeah not for the kids this one.

Currently watching The Joy of Techs on Netflix. About 50% of the episodes are funny. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I suggest starting with episode 2 not episode 1.

Watching Luke Cage season 2 atm.. However, it's more about the bands rather than the story why I'm posting this. So if you like blues and jazz then have a go. Some of those musicians are quite amazing.
