She arrived many years after I stopped watching, but they are the ones at the "National Science and Media Museum".

Barry Norman has died aged 83

I used to watch him when I was younger, then he moved over to sky, never heard much about him after that.

People of a certain age will remember Grotbags the Witch from Rod Hull's programmes in the 70s and 80s--the actress who played her, Carol Lee Scott, has died:

I still can't get over how great that first movie really was! It was wonderful! And, it had that "certain something" in it that signals a classic, genre-creating, movie.

Edit: Saw this posted somewhere and had to come back and add it! Godspeed, George!

(That zombie character brought a tear to my eye when I first saw his story play out. :) )

And, Landau is gone, too. I remember him from many bit parts and characters he played, not really much for Space 1999, only a little from the old Mission Impossible. Still, yet another icon is gone.

And some wonder why commercial advertising tries to hire known actors as their spokespersons. :)

Chester Bennington (lead singer of Linkin Park) has committed suicide, aged 41.

I'm in shock. Linkin Park were a huge part of my life, Chester's voice always unmistakable.
Have a few tears from this.

So sad to hear such a talented man is gone. Linkin Park were a massive part of me growing up.

I always thought that he was too good for the stuff he did. Space 1999, he always seemed better than that!

Wasn't he the first choice for Spock, but couldn't get out of his contract? And then he left Mission Impossible, and Nimoy replaced him.

May I recommend 12:01 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12:01_(1993_film) Where he plays the evil boss.

It's a groundhog day rip-off (or, more likely, a sci-fi story rip off), with a leading man that doesn't quite have the chops for a leading man. Underappreciated film I think, especially the scene where he's given the chance to prove he's reliving the same day over and over, and realizes that he hasn't been paying attention to the stuff around him, so he has to do it all over again.

Loved Martin Landau in everything I've seen him in.

Martin Landau himself would have told you so, but others would disagree. D.C. Fontana (who was working as Roddenberry's secretary during the creation of Star Trek) always said that Nimoy was Gene Roddenberry's first choice for the role. Maybe Landau would have been considered if Nimoy refused it, but he didn't, and the rest is history.

The ripping off may have been the other way around. The creators of 12:01 certainly seemed to think so because they initiated legal action over it.

Ooh, I didn't know that. I assumed because I saw groundhog day first, and 12:01 was new to the video store after that, that it was after. I thought it was an old concept anyway. (Also loving Window of Opportunity in Stargate SG1).

Even true heroes have to go sometime, unfortunately.

On to people who are famous, but hardly true heroes. Two gone today--Robert Hardy and Hywel Bennett:
