@ felter

I saw that and was sorry. The guy was double of what my paternal grandfather looked like at that age. Only my grandpa was even more of a cumbmuden.

Peter Firmin, one of the people behind much of my childhood TV, has left us. May his passing be this peaceful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=045Hxh7IfCU.

Adrian Cronauer passes to the great sound booth in the sky.
GOOD MOURNING WORLD!

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/ ... es-aged-79

I met Adriad through a coworker of his from his Vietnam tour, Chuck Molnar who was the night time DJ at AFRS (Air Force Radio Network) at Anderson AFB Guam in 1977- 79. Adrian would catch connecting flights to Japan on Guam just to visit with Chuck.
I had a first and second class FCC license and was Chuck's on call stand in. Adrian was far from famous and out of the USAF for years and funnier than HELL. (Or he was then...)

He will be missed.

My thoughts go out to those who died in the Greek fire tragedies,, some terrible experiences ...although "not of note" individuals on a world stage, to those who were loved and were of note a sad loss....

Mary Ellis, last surviving female pilot from WW2, has died:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44962253

OK, her and her compatriots may have only done delivery runs rather than actual combat, but that was still pretty vital for the war effort. RIP.

Just seen that :(. She appeared in Ewan McGregor's recent documentary about the RAF, what a remarkable lady :).

@ Terre

Is he the pilot that turned down the knighthood that
comes with the Commander of the British Empire?

I note that nobody's refered to him as Sir Eric.

Looked it up. Eric was CBE one down from Knight of the British Empire. (or DBE depending) Still. The man was the most highly decorated pilot in the RN. Went up from MBE. Spent most of the night reading stories about him. Frankly he makes Chuck Yeager's record look puny. England lost one of their greats.
