Both!!!
Rebirth is so different from AP.
In AP you will enjoy more in-depth game mechanics and more rich universe imo and in Rebirth you will enjoy amazing graphics, plus you 'll get a taste of what the future X games will look like.
Now if in X4 we get a combination of AP and Rebirth.... the outcome would be amazing.

X Rebirth has a demo in Steam, and AP is an extension to TC and the gameplay is pretty much the same, so try the demo for X Rebirth and see which one you like more.

Welcome.

This link may help.

Also type 'which game' into this Google search of the Egosoft forums in the exact word or phrase box and you should find more similar threads.

Good luck.

I would concur trying demo for Rebirth it is a lot less time hungry and a different experience. AP is more polished with more stuff Terran Conflict minus tedious long plots, you get stuff a lot quicker then in TC like PHQ/Hub. Tho there is always option of modding TC plots into AP and having 0 reason to play TC.

Sorry,have had to work,rl, what a drag but gotta make a living,lol.
Ive decided to play TC again, and get my feet on the ground.
Glad I did because I have forgotten so much. Started with the Humble Trader and once I get enough credits want to move on with Local Traders.
Ive got a question tho,,,, if I set the Discoverer up to buy and sell fuel and space weed,,,,will that hurt my rep even if I dont get caught?
Thanks
and thanks for your replies,
John

I had TC so thought I would just play it a bit and go on to Rebirth. But now Im engaged in the Humble Merchant and cant quit, lol. I havent made many credits thus far, about 2 mill, mostly running ore and at times energy. Wanting to get enough up to buy a good ship and set it up for a sector trader. I am sure most of you have done this enough it has become second nature to you, lol.
I read AP has a lot of fighting and I just didnt want that yet. I like to fight but want to pick my time to do it, when Ive gotten back use to the game.
Thanks again,
John

Howdy :)

If you are so into the TC experience, then AP is probably the better option out of it and Rebirth, as it's basically an enhanced TC. I keep seeing people go on about how much "more fighting" there is in AP, but for the most part, I don't see it. If anything, I've found a general trend for the games to become more and more tame as the series has progressed. If you want to play a relatively peaceful industrial or commercial game in AP, there's absolutely nothing to stop you (and, in fact, if you want to do that as a Terran, you can do so from the get-go, unlike in TC.)

Oh, btw, the Humble Merchant start is still in AP ;) (One of my favourites, in fact, if I'm looking to get set up quickly.) There are, in fact, also more money-making opportunities, especially for the starting pilot by exploiting the "additional fighting" without getting involved in it.

However, I should note that although I consider AP an enhanced version of TC, it's not a save-compatible expansion - you can't carry over your game saves.

Happy hunting!

The only really added element of fighting is the war zone stuff, but as the bonus pack lets you use a blacklist manager on your UT's, you could potentially have less fighting in AP than TC if that's what you wanted to do.

Hi,

after trying out Rebirth for two weeks and already getting bored, I gave AP another try.

Started as Poisoned Paranid, got my Hyperion, shortly afterward encountered my first Q patrol.

I started at 20 km, launching typhoons, which are exactly as fast as the Hype, at 10 km I started launching wasps to distract the Q from the typhoons, made a close flyby and then shot it from the back. The typhoons took all its shield away, and I managed to kill it with just 2% shields in the end. Then I killed its escort and even managed to make an L bail, which gave me what I'll need much later.

That's what I personally call a satisfying evening, not endlessly talking to NPCs about always the same subjects.

Nice! I had a great start like that today. Then I found out all pandoras are rudder optimizations (not one engine boost). :-|

Depends what you want.
XR is more a quick fun/shooter & much more colourful game. If you dont worry about all the details missing or which dont work or dont work as it should, XR is fine. If you dont want to spend too much time with one game, XR is it.

X-AP is more to built up a long time strategy. It much more logical - as far as a such a game could be. It runs without problems, 99% features are working as they should, just very few ticky, specials, but there are workaround. AP is far not as childish as XR - that why I would not recommend it for the impatient quick fun gamers.

If you are looking for a true X experience, then AP is what you need.
Also there is a pretty nice mod using Star Wars universe just getting out lastly !

If you are looking for a space game only, I would not recommend XR.
There are better recent space games actually than XR.

Or wait for X4 and cross the finger, burn a candle and pray.
