It sounds like an enjoyable exercise for us Brits in terms of 4 vs 4 ship engagements (given some pre-agreed dumbing down of the weapons systems involved). However, if you were to express the combatant numbers in terms of % of total in-theatre fighter capability available to them, I think that any realistic effective combat attrition rates would have seen far greater advantage to the US side.

Also I think the Brits were obviously playing day-to-day mind-games with the US air controllers - not that that would be a bad strategy mind.

Of course. In actual combat they had a high probability of being splashed from over the horizon. Still, the missiles may have failed or the brits may have found a way to evade them.

One doesn't make an ally out of an incompetent military... :)

If the Brits didn't win some of these sorts of training engagements then they wouldn't be worth going into battle with.

So, as a proud 'Murican, I salute our brave allies and celebrate their victory! (Maybe, next time, we won't tie one wing behind our back just to make it a fair contest... ;) )

Real combat engagements today are pretty dull (and quite horrifying) - the winner is the side that sees the others first, and looses off a salvo of missiles which arrive too quickly to be decoyed . . .

The winner is the one that doesn't have @$%$ assploading all around them at the time. They're also the ones that have enough time to reflect on the fact that they may be winning...

That's quite funny, there is I'm sure respect from both sides as we have atm the US training the Brits on the F35 plane.

Either way DCS F/A-18C can't come soon enough :)
