yes, I've been trying to make that point myself, but all it does is irritate her because I'm old and clearly don't understand how things work now....pjknibbs wrote:Ah, that's why every single channel on Youtube has a million subscribers, then?mrbadger wrote:The assumption seems to be you upload something that people will watch.

Alot of small channels will proberly resort to underhanded ways to get subs now,if not outright begging, which is something i always avoided,I always prided myself on gettign genuine subs, however when i found out ,i had to hit up all my friends and family for subs.I stopped though,I wont beg, just keep going till i hit it.
P.S Contrary to what i said.I subbed your daughter ,i really want to see that box skit

Aha! That was good! Nice intro, not too long, not obnoxious or distracting, decent lighting, decent sound, some prepared notes for guidance and all stuffed into a PSA. Very nicely done! Focus, a brief, a "righteous appeal," a nice thank you, all wrapped up quickly, without a bunch of droning on and rambling.
IOW - Good job!
PS - Obviously, decently read and an active discussion participant at her age. Why? She pronounced "demoralizing" without hesitation or stammering... It's next to impossible to get a young person away from their iPhone long enough to learn how to actually pronounce a word they've read instead of just aping it when required. Then again, for those who mispronounce words confidently, but use the correctly, at least it's evident they've read them.

I am suprised to see that no one so far mentioned the giant scandle that certainly played a part in this change, here is a short summary: https://youtu.be/hxiKPNQSRY0
Tl;Dr: Youttube had and still has a lot of absolutely disgusting and predatory contend targeted towards children that made a LOT of money in the past.

oh, now I want to set up parental controls on youtube.clakclak wrote:I am suprised to see that no one so far mentioned the giant scandle that certainly played a part in this change, here is a short summary: https://youtu.be/hxiKPNQSRY0

Some of those are blatantly child porn channels.
I can do that on iplayer, can I do it on youtube?
All I can do on my router is block youtube itself, which I don't want to do.

Good luck, YouTube themselves can't stop that stuff from appearing in the YouTube kids app. There's a whole subreddit around it https://www.reddit.com/r/ElsaGate/mrbadger wrote:oh, now I want to set up parental controls on youtube.clakclak wrote:I am suprised to see that no one so far mentioned the giant scandle that certainly played a part in this change, here is a short summary: https://youtu.be/hxiKPNQSRY0

That subreddit however (like already mentioned in the Video I linked) should be seen with a bit of scepsis, when it comes to some of the theories people over there come up with. It is however good at documenting the problematic Videos.InFlamesForEver wrote:Good luck, YouTube themselves can't stop that stuff from appearing in the YouTube kids app.

I don't understand, but I really do, why there's an uproar over all this objectionable (Oh, Japan...) content, weird, unsettling, stuff on youtube.
This is not a case of unintended consequences. This is a case of "we didn't even bother to think about any consequences 'cause money."
Anarchists love freedom and, for some crazy reason, the implied collective freedom of anarchy. Well, there ya go, welcome to youtube and the unsettling side of less-than-human nature.
Imagine you own a large field that's right next to a heavily traveled highway. You tell people that they can put up anything they want in that field so that anyone driving past or parking near it can see what they've put up.
How long until someone puts a giant phallus right in the middle of it? Should you be surprised? Should other sign-posters be outraged? Should parents who refuse to conver their children's eyes be kerfuffled?
And then, there are the channels that monetize off of youtube controversy.
"We are outraged! This must stop! Someone must do something about this! Here, where this button that says "Somebody should do something about this!" We should march somewhere and shout very loudly. Our voices of indignation should be heard, as long as you see this commercial while listening to them...."
Of course, they wouldn't do what anyone else would do and just stop associating themselves with youtube. Why? Money. Instead, they make demands like "Someone should do something." They don't own Youtube. They are customer. They are not some legitimate "partner," they're a "dependent." They have no rights at all to tell youtube to do anything at all, ever. If they left and others who felt the same way left, then maybe youtube would actually reason that they had better put in some content controls...
Youtube will respond to advertisers and that's the only way they will institute change and be motivated to provide some stewardship. But, that is always "reactive."
Youtube doesn't act proactively. They have tried various programs to use live people screening things, but it doesn't work. Their automated systems, which they want to really rely on, because algorithms don't require paid vacations, are too easily subverted or confused. And, then there's the subjective nature of opinion and "screening" to deal with.
Youtube is just too big to deal with its own creation and its current business model. And, parents are all too eager to use youtube as a babysitter. That's not new, either. The advent of television taught us that, too. But, at least it had the time to develop a set of standards before it became overloaded with garbage. Youtube suffered from such instant popularity that things just moved too fast, too far.
The easy way to solve this problem? Screened and restricted content, watched over by human beings. But... that costs money.
PS - WTF is up with this "injection" crap? Is there some weird screwed up fetish subculture out there that just can't get enough of that garbage? Of course there is... But, seriously, WTF?

I FINALLY FIGURED IT ALL OUT! (Hence, the separate post) I KNOW WATS RONG!
Why do we have "furries?" "Animal-kin?" Why do we have weird injection-porn? WTF is it with ponies? Why do we have kids setting other kids on fire and posting the vid on Facebook? Why do kids try to convince other kids to kill themselves? Why is copraphilia normalized? Why, why, why, why....
This is what happens when you let children raise themselves and give the World unfettered access to their tiny little brains!
"The Village" is a fookin' weird bunch of people that has no business at all raising kids.
