[X3AP] Changing race portraits?

Hello, forgive me if that question was asked before, but I really couldn't find any conclusive information via google.

I love X3AP and I was thinking about coming back again after long break.
But...

Is it possible to change race portraits? It doesn't have to be anything animated, static images would be enough.
I would be glad if it would be possible to even remove comms avatars and leave audio only. I just can't stand these oldschool race portraits anymore ; /

Is such operation possible? Is there any mod that could help me?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Yes, it's possible by changing the mov\00001.dat file. dertien released a mod doing this already: No More Muppets for X3TC. Since X3AP uses the 00001.dat file from X3TC, this mod should work with X3AP, too.
