How to break out CAT files with X3 Editor 2.

Post by Hank001 » Sun, 25. Mar 18, 15:39

EDIT: Here's the silly question I asked to find out a how to:

I know. I'm going to get flamed for asking, but the .cat files in X3TC
break down into only .pck and .pdb files and I seem to have no
tools that can extract or even read these. I need to break the .bob and .bod files out of these if possible.

So what tools does this?

And I know this is either/or;

Quite obvious

On the wrong thread

Edit: After wading though hundreds of posts and finding nada.

impossible

7Zip will unpack .pck files.

Great, now how do I break out those .pdb's?
I'm looking for the ship models in .bob or .bod's.

EDIT:

A friend saw this topic and emailed me running step by step
though the hoops X3 Edit two has you jump through,
but it's now breaking things out nicely.

In fact about 200% faster than the old X3 Edit. Good job there!

I'd never in a million years figured it out wading through 1000 posts.

Thanks pal. That walk through was killer!

I'll double post because second email said "Now Share".

Okay, Grab X3 Edit 2.
To break out everything in the .cat files
go to PLUGINS and select Cat Manager.

Use thecOpen that appears and select the .cat file you want opened.

Once you do open the the file it will ahow the directories contained.

Select the directories and then Extract Files.

WARNING! DO NOT EXTRACT TO GAME DIRECTORY, use another directory, like one I set up in my TEMP directory.

Everything then breaks out into native formats (Yeah! Finally! I don't have to convert things one by one). :D

By the way. Just commenting on X3TC's models.
Though the styling is sometimes a bit "over the top"

I think it's some of the best in any space games then or now.

I'm looking forward to springing my additional models into
X3R and TC in the near future. I don't plan on creating full mods
just converting my designs into ships modders can add to
theirs my setting them up in .bods and some fully packaged in .xsp's for use in plugin manager.

Edit: And it would have been really great if someone would have made an updated X3MShipCreator that functioned with X2TC.
Some of data no longer reads correctly in TC.
